North Georgia Speedway Hosts ULTIMATE Super Late Model Opener Saturday
Chatsworth, Georgia (March 2, 2016) – The North Georgia Speedway is set to kick off another season of great racing action at the 1/3 mile banked dirt oval located at 300 North Georgia Raceway Road just southwest of Chatsworth off Highway 225. Chip Burke, an area construction business owner, will begin his 3rd consecutive season at the helm of the popular facility. The track will host the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series, a regional tour for the exotic custom-built Dirt Late Models, on opening night. The event will also see action in the local divisions of Crate Late Model, Sportsman, A-Hobby and Pony.
Burke, who also owns Global Building & Remodeling in Dalton, is excited about bringing this level of competition to the track as the season opener again. “We are stoked about this event. This is the 2nd year in a row that we have had this as our season opener. There will a lot of racers coming into our track from all over the place. This has become a marquee type event for North Georgia Speedway. These ULTIMATE guys put on a good show and they will face some tough competition from our area guys. We hope that everyone will come out and join us for all the great racing that we know we will have on Saturday.”
In addition to the traveling drivers from all over the eastern United States a pair of local drivers in Aaron Ridley and Derek Ellis, both of Chatsworth, are favorites to contend for the $4000 winner’s prize. “We have a lot of laps at North Georgia but when a traveling series like this comes in that doesn’t make a huge difference. Those guys that do this every week are always on top of their game and have their equipment prepared for wherever they are racing. But we have great equipment right now too so we are going to go out there and try to keep that money local.” said Ridley.
The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will bring in big talent from all over the region. Chief among those will be 3-time and defending Series Champion Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Georgia. Roberts finished 3rd in this event in 2015 and he is looking forward to returning to the track. “North Georgia is a really good track. They do a good job with preparing the track and it’s always been real racy. We are excited to get going and see what we can do. We would like to get us a win there.” Roberts is fresh off a win at Cochran Speedway in South Georgia and he feels like he has some momentum coming in to this weekend’s event. “We go to the track wanting to win every time we unload. I know that is impossible but that is always my goal. All our equipment is fresh right now so we feel pretty good about being able to race for the win.” Roberts added.
Saturday the gates are scheduled to open at 2 PM with the driver meeting set for 5:45 and racing to follow.
