CARTERSVILLE, GA – For the first time in its history, North Mississippi Motor Park in Corinth, MS will sanction with the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division for the 2016 season. Drivers competing in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division will compete for both a track point fund and a National Fund.
With the addition of North Mississippi Motor Park for the 2016 season, every active dirt track in the Magnolia State is now sanctioned by the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division. North Mississippi Motor Park will also sanction with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for Late Models in the 2016 racing season.
Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS have all been NeSmith-sanctioned for several years.
The battle for the National point fund in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division, North Mississippi Motor Park Street Stock drivers will compete against drivers at other NeSmith Street Stock tracks throughout the country using a point system. The 2016 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock season for National points will be for 27 weeks from March 21 through September 25.
During the 27-week season, a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals will count towards their National total. The $5,000 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division National point fund will pay $2,000 to the National Champion and pay back ten spots in the final point standings.
North Mississippi Motor Park will work with Magnolia Motor Speedway with their event scheduling during the 2016 season. North Mississippi Motor Park will operate on Saturday nights, except for Saturday nights that Magnolia Motor Speedway is open. Drivers will an opportunity to earn National points at both tracks this season.
“We will be working with Magnolia Motor Speedway this season, and we will be open on the Saturday nights they are closed, and we will be closed on the Saturday nights they are open,” North Mississippi Motor Park Promoter Steve Nelms said. “We will also run the same rules as Magnolia Motor Speedway.”
Nelms acknowledged that North Mississippi Motor Park had been the last holdout of weekly tracks in the state to sanction with NeSmith Racing, but at the same time he noticed a couple of things that led him to join the rest of the tracks in Mississippi.
“We had a Limited Late Model class for the last few years, but most of them are running the Chevrolet Performance 604 sealed engine that the NeSmith Late Models run, so it would be a good move for them in that they can run at different tracks with the same rules, like Magnolia Motor Speedway to earn National points,” Nelms said. “I also noticed that the NeSmith sanctioned tracks seemed to be successful, while others in area that didn’t sanction with NeSmith Racing were going out of business.”
North Mississippi Motor Park also sits two hours away from another NeSmith Racing sanctioned track, Camden Motor Speedway in Camden, TN that also runs NeSmith Late Models and NeSmith Street Stocks. Nelms said if one track has a rainout, the competitors have another option to two a couple of hours to race for National NeSmith points.
