View Full Version : What is up with Bloomquist??

I heard Scott in an interview say "bet on the zero to win the points title in 2016". He missed qualifying last night because he was late??....He always seems to screw himself by being late to the track....when will he learn?

He could certainly use some better time management. I've see him be late to races at least a dozen times.

He always seems about halfway unprepared, but he sure knows how to get it done. The one night at East Bay we were standing there while all of the other cars were already in line to go out for the feature and there is Bloomquist with a heat gun attempting to apply a huge decal to the nose of of the car. Because clearly there was no other possible time do that......

That's not the point. He's one of the best, if not the best. Do we see anyone else doing this? I don't remember him missing qualifying back in the 90s very much. He's always one of the last to show up, but he just shafts himself showing up like he does.

I remember seeing Mark Martin at atomic last year when he showed up late. He went out and made the most horrific qualifying lap I've ever seen him do, mainly cuz they rushed the car out there. Mark just looked at the ground and shook his head.

He did put himself behind but he finished ok... I remember (back in the 90s) him showing up at the gap(volunteer speedway) right at the beginning of qualifying he was the last out and broke the track record

Throttlejockey
03-19-2016, 11:52 AM
He did not finish ok....these races matter and he needs top 5's not top 10's when the point leader is winning races....remember when he missed the speed week race a few years ago ( I believe he sold his car to Eric Jacobson) he didn't win the points and that was his first point in not winning the title!

This won't be a popular answer, however I honestly believe it's because it gives him an excuse when or if he doesn't when the Lucas Oil title. That's what I've been saying also. Really like Bloomquist and there's no arguing that's he's one of the greatest, but there is always an excuse when he don't win. Last year he blamed losing the championship on two rainouts and not the other 35 or so races thru out the year..... Everyone knows what time the gates open at these tracks and how many laps the races are...

This won't be a popular answer, however I honestly believe it's because it gives him an excuse when or if he doesn't when the Lucas Oil title.I honestly thought of that too. Like wtf are you doing? You are trying to compete for a title, and you're 1 1/2 hrs late to the track. Just fukin stupid, 49 other drivers in your division were there on time, but you were over an hour late. Thank God I wasn't wearing any Bloomer sh!t, I'd have been embarrassed. He looked pretty good, but if he'd have gotten there on time, timed good, and started near the front, he coulda got a top 5 maybe, not 18th to freakin 9th.

Bloomquist has nothing left to prove. He's won everything there is to win. He's' the best there ever was. He's more concerned about the future and his business of Sweet-Bloomquist Racecars. He will test to make his product the best there is.

That's how I feel too. For the most part it seems the meetings consists of the same ol bs, but on occasions there are certain things that get discussed that everyone that is racing needs to hear. I'm not even certain I seen he even went through pre-race tech. The 6 car was the last car to go through tech. It went through about 10-15 mins before they shut down the tech line.

If I was that kinda guy, I'd start them about various drivers and see how much steam I could muster. But I'm not, and could really care less. If they drive wreckless, and are a danger to those around them, then yeah. But it's been made pretty clear over thirty years Bloomer is as far from a wreckless driver as they come. But he doesn't have a crew cut or toe the cookie cutter line, so he's a target for the perfect folks.

You are correct throttle jockey, i seem to remember we had the same point of view on some stuff, well at least 5 years ago when i was on mrm forum. First and foremost, nobody knows what happened to bloomer. If he was late because of a flat and your such a big fan of worrying over him getting to the track then go follow him from mooresburg to the track. At least you guys will sleep at night and not make up a whole thread of crazy junk instead of let the original poster have an answer. The place seems just like i left it 5 years ago. If he was spotted in Pikeville, as I said in another post. US 23 goes right by Chillicothe all the way down to Tennessee. If he got lost between Pikeville and Waverly.....that's his own fault. Cuz it's a straight shot from Tennessee to Ohio if that's the way he went.

Not the first time the 0 has been late to an early season race at AtomiKC.
My guess is that he wasnt in any hurry to get out on a "winter" race track and just tear stuff up. Theres a good chance at any spring race the track is gonna be rough. I bet his intention was to miss hot laps, do one lap qualifying at the end and just miscalculated.

I seldom comment on things like this. The thing that struck me funny was the hauler pulled into the speedway and then had to back all the way back out in order to get on the road back to the pits. This was my first time at Atomic but I'm sure he has been there many times and should know how to gain access to the pits. Just a little strange in my opinion.

I can't say this applies to 100% of races... But everytime I have seen Scott in the last couple years, he is at the track in his personal motorhome, often before the car hauler has arrived. (For example, last year at Wheatland he was already there, and drove Landers' backup car when the zero hauler didn't make it due to air pump issues coming through Kentucky)

Just my observation is that Scott's crew is made up of people that really don't know much about racing they just want to be part of his show. By them doing that scott don't have to spend much money. When you have people who don't know how to do the job it's going to cost him time. Scott just pay some people money and get the proper people and your trouble ' s will go away.I talked to a guy that drove his hauler for a little while and scott wasn't budging off the wage the driver was getting paid so the guy QUIT !!
