How goes it with the 602 Wingless Sprints?

Saw these on youtube and wished they's catch on down south. Self starting, no push truck required... They look super fun and I'm guessing relatively inexpensive to maintain. Brand new was like $12K-$15K turn key. Used cars go for like $3K-$5K from what I saw on racingjunk.com/ The 602 has to have some special mounting holes drilled into back of cam for fuel pump, but no changes within the bolts. Uses a special Bert trans, starter, small battery and an alky carb. Zoom away you go!

This would make a great support class for some of the USAC shows. They would be better as a support class than the mortifieds. This is the first time we've seen these cars. I think they may have a future given how economical and dependable they should be.

SuperEight, I was talking to a buddie out in Kansas and he said there is a group in Texas that are running these sprint cars. He said these cars are becoming increasingly popular down there. They sound relatively similar in size, power and set up to the 305 sprints that they use as a support class at The Belleville Midget Nationals except for the battery, starter, clutch and transmission.

I hope this class catches on, it would be an economical stepping stone division along with an inexpensive avenue for guys that don't want to spend the big bucks to jump into a 360 or 410. I've gotta' believe they would be similar in handling characteristics to the 360's and 410's whereas the mini-sprints with the motorcycle engines maybe wouldn't be quite as similar.

And I like the idea of running sprint cars in support of sprint cars.

Not sure Super. I'd tend to agree with you in regards to the wings bogging them down but on the other hand most of the minisprints run wings, at least in our area they do, and they seem to have enough power but then they are smaller, lighter cars.

with the lower hp you have to run them freed up and learn to control the throttle more than with a high hp motor were it's hammer down more. and as you see in the 2nd video if you pinch it to hard in the corner it will cost yu 2 or 3 car lengths. but I hope they bring them to the mid west. we just got a 604 for the latemodel and can't wait to get it down in the car.

They started a nonwing sprint class at Wilmot last year using the 604 crate I believe. Looks like the cheapest way a guy could ever race a sprint car.

Found out there are a couple different groups with different packages, some 604's at Wilmot Speedway(Minnesota or Wisconsin) and down in Texas they have Racesaver 305's. The Racesavers seem to be the most healthy and most racy. Simply put you can buy or build your own 305 within the rules and simply have it certified and sealed. 430-460 HP and they last. Look them up on youtube, Elite sprint cars, http://www.elitesprintcars.com/ You can build one yourself for around $6 grand, then $3500 for injection, which is more than a carb setup, but they work better and hold value better. This is the route I'm taking, I felt the 602's, just like in a DLM were just too weak and the 604's were only marginally better. Where as the Racesaver 305's really put on a better show for the fan and sounded a lot better for similar money.
