CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 2 of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will feature eight races at seven different tracks in four different states. Three tracks return to action for the second straight week, three tracks will host their 2016 NeSmith Late Model season opener, and one track will present its first-ever sanctioned race.

The Week 2 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action will begin with two races on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS with its second race of the 2016 season, and the first of two Week 2 races at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. The Friday night show at The Mag will be the 2016 NeSmith Late Model season opener.

Magnolia Motor Speedway will highlight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 2 competition on Saturday night with a $1,000-to-win Highway 45 Throwdown Series race. The Highway 45 Throwdown Series races are contested in conjunction with events at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS during the 2016 season.

Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX and LA 36 Speedway in Lacombe, LA will be back in action with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races for the second straight week on Saturday night, while Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will present their NeSmith Late Model season openers on Saturday night.

Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, TX will host its first-ever NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned event on Saturday night. Cotton Bowl Speedway is one of three new NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks for 2016.

Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS and Bryant Marsh of Corinth, MS are the National co-point leaders after the first week of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Arnold took the win at LA 36 Speedway and 16-year-old Marsh opened the 2016 season with a win last week at Hattiesburg Speedway.

Marsh is also a Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series driver, a special series within a series for NeSmith Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger. The youngest Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series driver, 13-year-old Colton Horner of Katy, TX, took a 40-point win last week at Battleground Race Park.

Scott Dedwylder of Vossburg, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS are tied for third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, while K.I. Davis of Poplarville, MS and Bryan Foy of Lacombe, LA are tied for the fifth spot. Robbie Starnes of Baytown, TX and Jamie Smith of Purvis, MS are for the seventh spot. Hunter Lewis of Moss Point, LA is ninth and Scott Ladner of Lacombe, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the point standings.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season that runs through September 25. The $20,000 National point fund will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors have the option of two different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines to compete with. The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine costs $5,795 and the steel-head 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a 100-pound weight break costs $3,495.
