changing a axle seal on a winters quick change rearend

do you have to take the side bell off a winters quick change just to replace an axle seal

Yes, it presses in from the inside.

thanks can I take that one side out while its in the car or should I take the whole rearend out

You can take it out while in the car.

You can change it while in the car but if you haven't done a rear-end before, the thing could come apart in ways you're not prepared for. Meaning your spool and ring gear could end up on the shop floor in a hurry.
The "safest" way to do it, in my opinion, is to remove the entire rear end from the car. Bolt a tire and wheel to the left side hub and stand it up on that end (outside of wheel on shop floor). Then you can disassemble it without things falling apart.
