Trying to decide if I should build a 302 or 351w for a hobby stock. I like the idea of using the 302 for having less weight on the nose. Just not sure if it'll have enough tq. We have to run a 7448 350 Holley, performer intake, can use either GT40 heads or Roush 200 heads, 480 lift cam rule. Which would you do?

if your rules allow, the 302 with the 3.400 to 3.500 crank is the best way to go, but some rules say you must run the crank that matches the block,i.e. 302 block must run 3.00 stroke and 351 must run 3.500 stroke. our rules say 362 limit with no crank rules so we run a 3.450 stroke in 302 Mexican block and it is the best combo ive found. if you go this route, be sure to use a quality coated piston. if you cant do this, then the 351 is the way to go and just deal with the weight.

then a 1969 to1972 351 w block with the roush heads is probably your best deal, check with scott main with cam research in Colorado for a cam, they grind there cams in house and he knows his stuff on a ford. By the way, there are some people out there having pretty good luck with a 351 Cleveland , however it takes a lot of oiling tricks to keep them alive on a dirt track,

No clevlands allowed, Windsor only. I do have a 72 Windsor block to use. I was thinking about using Mike Jones for the cam. Who is good with the 7448 carbs?

ive never used jones, but have always herd good things about him, I use to use crane till I met scott , he has been grinding my cams for over 20 years for every thing from full blown drag motors to 2 brl street stocks that have to pull x amount of vacuum. there web site is camresearchcorp.com , click on the cam shaft section and it will help you with what you need to know when you call, also deal with scott, he is more of the circle track person, good luck....
