Octane Requirement

This is probably better suited for that engine forum .. but ...

What octane fuel do you guys race with ? My motor is probably a pretty vanilla race motor, Brodix 18 deg heads, around 360 cu in and built ~ 15 years ago @ CJ Rayburn's engine shop. Been through 2 rebuilds just to keep it fresh. Unknown compression .. whatever everybody was doing 15 years ago I guess.

Rodeck block, etc.

Any suggestions ?

That is it. Back when I still had latemodels we had good luck with it, even with Trak-Tek (Phillips66 to us old timers) T-111. Would use either in our open or SUPR Spec motors.

compression ratio is pretty important to know for choosing fuel, although there are many other factors also . Our motors are over 14:1 and we use Sunoco HCR 114, and have used VP latemodel plus.

If the motor is out of the car roll it on its side and turn it up to top dead center and pour it in the spark plug see what you come up with. That's better than I don't know if you don't want to pull a head

Unfortunately, it's back in the car as of 2 weeks ago .. it ain't a comin' back out :)

I'm sure it's not more than 15:1, and apparently that 112 is good up to that.

I'll just be sure and watch for a "Check Engine Light"

Don't forget you can turn the key on/off three times and count the flashes for the DTC's on most late model engines.

Many of the top racers here in Florida run the Renegade Super Late Model. The Renegade Pro 112 and Pro 114 are also good choices.
