Butch Shay Memorial at Richmond Raceway Postponed Due to Saturated Grounds
Richmond, KY (May 13, 2016)- Richmond Raceway track promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz have had to make the unfortunate decision to postpone the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial that was scheduled for Saturday evening May 14 due to the heavy rains the track has received during the week. Track officials will be working over the weekend to set a make-up date for the event and that will be announced as soon as it becomes available.
Heavy rains have fallen over the Madison County area of Kentucky where Richmond Raceway is located, with precipitation totals of upwards of three to four inches of heavy rain since Monday at the track and has left the lower portion of the racing surface and much of the spectator parking and pit area parking water-logged and over-saturated with moisture. That, along with the fact that local weather services are predicting morning showers on Saturday along with unseasonably cooler temperatures, track officials felt there would be no way for the track and grounds to dry enough for competition.
“We really wanted to get this race in on Saturday, but Mother Nature has thrown a large curveball at us this week with all the rain here at the track”, stated track co-promoter Larry Yantz. “We hate to have to postpone the event, but we wanted to do it early enough so everyone could adjust their plans for the weekend”, added Yantz.
The next event at Richmond Raceway is now scheduled for Saturday May 21 and it will be Kid’s Night, with special activities planned for the younger race fans in attendance. The racing program will see the Pro-Tow Towing Stock Four Cylinders race for $750 to win, while all other divisions will be in competition in a full racing program, featuring the Sonic Late Models racing for $1,500 to win, Phantom Racing Gear Modifieds racing for $1,000 to win, AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win, and Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win.
