I have an early 2000ish Rayburn swing arm car with 4 bar mounts. It was set up 4 bar left and swing arm right. I am getting rid of the swing arm and going 4 bar both sides. The issue i have is the car is under slung and the birdcage shock mount hits the under rail. Im going to have to move the shock mount on the chassis as well as the lower mount. Im thinking about clamping the lower mount on the axle tube. Whats the pros/cons of doing this?

That sounds like my old car, with a pull bar it worked well.

Which side? does it hit. I am assuming the LR, i would just move it.

But clamping it to the axle used to be popular, a lot of older Mastersbuilt were like that, some loved it, some didnt.

it is the right side. After doing my homework I find that clamping the shock is not such a great idea. Im going to take Revel's advise and move the under rail. The left side rail was moved when the 4 bar brackets were added. I now know why it was set up swing arm on the right. it appears whoever added the mounts for 4 bar did not think that far ahead and left the right side bar alone.

probably need to shorten right side axle tube as well. isn't Rayburns RR tube longer than other chassis brands?

I would at least run a 6" offset.

Not sure where you live, but I know a car that has all this work already done. Could be had real cheap.
