Here lately, it seems like a black cloud follows SLM driver G.R. Smith to every racing event he enters.
Last night, with a glimmer of hope, G.R. smashed the existing track record of 15.027 seconds at the 4/10 mile Dublin Motor Speedway in Dublin, North Carolina held by Chris Ferguson. His crew had been up all night replacing a broken transmission suffered at the Lucas Oil SLM Series race at Gaffney, South Carolina. The car wasn't even ready for hot laps at Dublin but did roll out at the time of qualifying. He ran a transponder measured 14.911 seconds best lap to establish the new standard at the track.
However, the bad luck was not gone as Smith suffered an issue during the race and had to retire from the event. His name does go on the wall though as the fastest of the fast at the facility.
