Dennis Erb, Jr. Climbs to Seventh in Grassy Smith Memorial; Still Seventh in Lucas Points

(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) The #28 team followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee from July 7-9 for what was supposed to be a huge triple shot of racing action. Following a rain-out on Thursday at Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the annual 'Grassy Smith Memorial' kicked off the dirt-slinging competition on Friday evening at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. Dennis Erb, Jr. posted the sixteenth fastest lap in qualifying and later ran fifth in his loaded heat race. After a long rain delay, Dennis was able to work his way past six competitors during the $10,000 to win headliner to bag a solid seventh place performance.

At Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday night, a $12,000 top prize was on the line in the 'Mountain Moonshine Classic.' Dennis laid down the ninth quickest time in Group A during the qualifying session prior to grabbing the fourth transfer spot through his heat race. The Carpentersville, Illinois star had then blasted all the way up to fifth in the running order in the 60-lapper before unfortunately dropping a driveshaft on lap 52. Dennis was eventually placed fifteenth in the final finishing order and still sits seventh in the latest version of the LOLMDS point standings exiting Smoky Mountain. Full results from the long weekend can be viewed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Next up for Dennis Erb Racing will be a pair of marquee Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series shows in the states of Illinois and Missouri on July 15-16. Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois will take center stage on Friday night, as the ‘Battle at the Beach 50’ will pay $10,000 to the winner. The doubleheader weekend with the national touring series will then wrap up with the $12,000 to win ‘CMH Diamond Nationals’ on Saturday evening at the pristine Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
