Jeep Van Wormer Returns to Competition in Summer Nationals Double Dip at Oakshade
(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and the Iron Motorsports team returned to racing action on July 15-16 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio in the final two UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals events of the 2016 season. On Friday night in the $5,000 to win weekend opener, Jeep timed in thirteenth fastest in Group B during qualifying and later grabbed the third transfer spot through his heat race. After starting the 40-lap main event from the inside of the sixth row, Jeep was able to move up inside of the top ten to eventually earn a solid tenth place performance.
Saturday's "Hell Tour" finale at Oakshade marked the track's annual 'Birthday Race' and boasted a $10,000 payday. Jeep clicked off the eighth quickest lap in Group A during time trials prior to placing fifth in his stacked heat race. After grabbing the second and final transfer spot through the B-Main, the Pinconning, Michigan ace was an early retiree in the 60-lapper.
