David Payne Gets First-Career Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Payday at Boyd’s Speedway

RINGGOLD, Ga. – July 26, 2016 –David Payne of Murphy, N.C. became the 33rd different winner in nearly 12 seasons with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series as he drove into victory lane Tuesday Night at Boyd’s Speedway.
Payne would lead the entire 35-lapper to claim his first-career series victory, worth $3,500, while driving the Payne Excavating and Gibson Motorsports-sponsored, Capital Race Car. Rounding out the top-five at the finish were Vic Hill, Craig Vosbergen who scored his best-career series finish, Devin Gilpin and Todd Morrow.
After seven events, Devin Gilpin still sits high atop the point standings with a mere 18-point gap between second place, which is a tie between Shanon Buckingham and Ricky Weiss. Sitting eight points back from that tie is Vic Hill and Donald McIntosh occupies the fifth position in the points. Shanon Buckingham leads the Rookie of the Year standings after seven races over second place runner Gavin Landers and Robby Moses.
The series will have one more off-day before returning to action Thursday July 28th at the Crossville Speedway in Crossville, Tenn. for Round # 8 paying $3,500-to-win, which is the start of the final three races: Crossville, Smoky Mountain and Tazewell.
