Shane Clanton Wins at Shawano; Contends at USA Nationals

Zebulon, Georgia (08/08/16) – Shane Clanton enjoyed a successful tour of Wisconsin last week in his Weldbank Energy #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model. He started the week with a $10,000 win on Tuesday at Shawano Speedway before enjoying one of his best runs at Cedar Lake Speedway during the USA Nationals finale.

Making the trip North, Shane Clanton followed the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series to Shawano Speedway (Shawano, Wisconsin) on Tuesday night for the Sun Drop Shootout. After timing in 6th fastest in a field of 28 entries, Clanton cruised to a heat race victory, giving him the 2nd-starting position for the feature alongside Jimmy Mars. Following a slip-up on lap 20 that gave the lead to Josh Richards, Shane regained the top spot on the next lap before going on to record his ninth victory of the season. Richards, Earl Pearson Jr., Brandon Overton, and Rick Eckert completed the Top 5. Clanton was awarded a $10,000 payday for his 50-lap, A-Main win.

On Thursday evening Clanton picked back up with the World of Outlaws, traveling to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for the opening round of the three-day USA Nationals. Transferring the top three out of the heats to the feature, Shane recorded a 4th-place outing, which forced him into the B-Main. Storming to a 12-lap consolation win, Clanton earned the 21st-starting position for the opening night $6,000-to-win, A-Main. After getting caught behind a wreck on lap 19, Shane Clanton worked his way back to a 13th place outing in the 30-lap main event.

On Friday evening preliminary action was held for the $50,000-to-win, USA Nationals. Shane got off to a fast start by winning his heat race with a thrilling last lap pass before also winning the pole dash. As a result, he started on the front row for Saturday night’s 100-lap finale with Jonathan Davenport starting alongside.

Clanton paced the first 35 circuits of the finale before Josh Richards took command. As the race progressed, the handle on Shane’s car began to fade slightly as he ultimately slipped to a 7th-place finish.

“Overall it was a solid week for our team,” said Clanton. “We got the win at Shawano, and then that was probably the best car we’ve ever had at Cedar Lake. In the past I’ve really struggled there, but we had a good car this weekend. We learned a lot throughout the weekend, and I feel like we now have some solid notes to work with at that place when we go back.”

Shane remains in second in the WoO points standings. Full results are available at www.WoOLMS.com .

Shane’s ultra-busy schedule continues this week as he follows the WoO Craftsman Late Model Series to the East Coast for a four-race swing. Action opens on Thursday night at Delaware International Speedway (Delmar, Delaware) before shifting to Potomac Speedway (Budd’s Creek, Maryland) on Friday night. Saturday will find the series at Winchester Speedway (Winchester, Virginia), and the busy weekend will draw to a close on Sunday evening at Eriez Speedway (Hammett, Pennsylvania). All four shows will pay $10,000-to-win. For more information on the events, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .
