Dry sump or wet sump (are you driving a oil pump shaft with dizzy)?

Also is the engine assembled right now?

I don't see why it would need to be in a non standard setting on Dizzy from factory specs so I'd measure a non adjustable one and set to that dimension. Then you can always dykem the dizzy gear and install and spin engine and pull and make sure the pattern is roughly in the middle of the gear. But first make sure to check dizzy with no gasket and make sure it touches manifold so you know it's not bottomed out on the oil pump shaft and lock the dizzy up.

Post on another forum:

"Measure the thickness of your distributor gasket. Then subtract the desired clearance from that. I measured the felpro gasket to be about .060. If I wanted .025 clearance, Subtract that from .060 and you get .035. Now loosen the slip collar and drop the distributor in with no gasket. Use a .035 feeler gauge between the manifold and slip collar. Lock the collar down. Reinstall the gasket and you should have about .025 clearance minus a little for the compression of the gasket once you tighten the hold down."

I measured one I have here, I get 5.925 from the bottom of collar to the end of the dizzy body down by the gear.

Are you measuring from bottom of collar to the end of the shaft where the chamfer starts?

That was from the bottom of the collar that would touch the manifold (no gasket on it) and the bottom of the dizzy housing like it had the gear and shims removed (bottom of alum housing of dizzy not the steel shaft that drives the oil pump)

Hope that is clear enough
