Pair of Labor Day Weekend Wins Pocketed by Rodney Sanders

Happy, Texas (09/05/16) – Rodney Sanders parked his Wichita Tank Racing #20 Swan Energy/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified in victory lane on two occasions with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) over the course of the Labor Day weekend.

Following the Hunt for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental, Rodney Sanders was one of 25 Open Wheel Modifieds registered at Fairmont Raceway (Fairmont, Minnesota) on Thursday night for the 9th Annual KEVKO Summer Spectacular presented by State Bank of Fairmont and Bill & Sandy Johnson. After a 7th-place outing in his heat, Sanders charged to a consolation win, giving him the 15th-starting position for the $3,000-to-win feature. Moving up seven spots, Rodney landed an 8th place finish in the 32-lap opening night A-Main.

The following night brought Sanders and 41 USMTS Modifieds to Chateau Raceway (Lansing, Minnesota) for another $3,000-to-win A-Main. Gaining two positions in his heat, Rodney started the night off with a heat race win earning him the 7th-starting position for the feature. Working his way into the Top 5, Rodney improved three spots, registering a 4th-place finish behind Zach VanderBeek, Johnny Scott, and Cade Dillard with Brandon Davis coming in 5th.

On Saturday night Rodney headed to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the 11th Annual Barclay Landscaping Labor Day Dual. Starting 6th in his heat, Sanders stormed to heat race win transferring him into the feature with the 7th-starting spot. Passing six more cars in the 42-lap A-Main, Rodney Sanders captured his third win during the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup and 12th overall on the season. Cade Dillard, Lucas Schott, Craig Thatcher, and Jesse Sobbing rounded out the Top 5 finishers.

Wrapping up the busy Labor Day Weekend, Sanders invaded Cresco Speedway (Cresco, Iowa) on Sunday for the next to last stop on the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. Drawing 31 Modifieds for the 13th Annual Cresco Bowl, Sanders locked into the feature with another heat race victory. Coming from the 6th-starting position, Rodney Sanders charged to his second consecutive A-Main victory and another $3,000 payday. Keeping his hopes alive for the title, Cade Dillard, Jason Hughes, Zack VanderBeek and Jesse Sobbing trailed Rodney across the finish line in the 42-lap affair.

“We’re running out of time in this battle for the title, but we’re not giving up,” said Sanders. “We’re going out every night to win races. This weekend started a little slow for us, but things definitely ramped up quickly. I want to thank my team, my sponsors, and my fans for their support.”

Rodney is currently third in The Hunt for the Casey's Cup. For full results from these events as well as the latest series standings, please visit www.USMTS.com .
