Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond Raceway Begins Busy Trek for Southern Nationals Bonus Series

RICHMOND, Ky. – September 10, 2016 – The 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels-sponsored Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway will take place on Saturday September 17th as the Southern Nationals Bonus Series competitors will race for the $10,059 top prize. One driver could take home $11,384 if they lead the entire 59-lap distance with the total sponsorship lap money that will be provided.

The September 17th event at Richmond Raceway will start a busy stretch of fall races for the series. The tour has seven races remaining with six of them paying $10,000-to-win or more. The total payouts for the remaining seven events are in excess of $220,000.

In addition to the Super Late Models, the Open Wheel Modifieds will also be on the racing card gunning for $1,259-to-win while the Super Stocks will race for $1,059-to-win and the Four Cylinders will also be in action racing for $759-to-win. Bob Wolter Sr. will put up $100 for the fastest Super Late Model in qualifying and Turner Realty Group will sponsor $100 to a driver in the Super Late Model main event who makes a last-lap pass to win the race.

When the Southern Nationals Bonus Series last visited Richmond Raceway in June for the Iron-Man Classic, Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.V. took the $10,050 payday in a thrilling event that had over five different official lead changes. Greg Johnson, Donald McIntosh, Jason Jameson and Duane Chamberlain rounded out the top-five. The defending Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial race winner is Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn.

In 28 previous Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial events, there have been 15 different winners. Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, Ind. is the all-time winner at nine victories. Jason Barrett of Waco, Ky. currently leads the track point standings heading into this Saturday’s race. Trailing Barrett is Johnny Wheeler, Chris Ruble, Todd Coffman and Tommy Bailey.

There have been seven different winners in seven races so far this season with the Southern Nationals Bonus Series. David Payne of Murphy, N.C. is the most recent winner as he took the $4,400 payday in the Buddy Rogers Memorial at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on September 4th.

An open practice session will be held on Friday Night September 16th from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. General admission is free while pit passes are $20.00.

On Saturday September 17th, the pits open at 2:00 pm and the grandstand gates open at 3:30 pm. Driver registration will close at 5:30 pm and the drivers meeting will begin at 5:45 pm and practice set to begin at 6:15 pm. All times listed are EDT. Ticket prices in the general admission area will be $25.00 for adults while adult pit passes are $45.00.

The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will offer a $200 bonus for the highest finishing competitor using a Steel Head/SPEC engine and a $200 bonus for the highest finishing competitor utilizing a CT525 power-plant. The Super Late Model division will have an entry fee for this event and it will be $100, while the tire rule for Super Late Models for this event on all four corners of the race cars will be as follows: Hoosier 1300, 1350, and 1600 or American Racer 44, 48, and 56.

The September 17th event will feature a complete show of practice, FK Rod End’s Qualifying, Heat Races, Last Chance Races and the 59-lap $10,059-to-win event. Transponders (available at the track for $10.00) will be mandatory for the event.
