King of the Mountain Hall of Fame Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway is Saturday September 17th

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (September 10, 2016)—The second appearance by the Southern All-Stars Dirt Racing Series to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. will take place this Saturday September 17th as the SAS gang rolls back in to town for the $5,000-to-win King of the Mountain Hall of Fame Classic. This will also be the season finale for the Smoky Mountain Speedway.

Along with the 40-lap $5,000-to-win Super Late Model race, the United Crate Racing Alliance (UCRA) Crate Late Models will join in with the program gunning for $2,500-to-win. The Sportsman Late Models will also race for $1,000-to-win. It will be an all "Late Model" show this coming Saturday Night September 17th.

It is also Hall of Fame Night as Smoky Mountain Speedway inducts five new members into the track's hall of fame. Danny Glass, Bud Lunsford, Jimmy Monroe, Paul Lewis, and Harley "Fuzzy" Orange will be inducted during intermission of Saturday's racing program. The intermission is set for approximately 8:00 pm.

Prior to racing action, several past hall of fame inductees will be present to sign autographs and meet fans. Herman Goddard, Randy Bethea, and L.D. Ottinger are tentatively scheduled to meet the fans from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Also appearing will be former Southern All-Stars champion Duayne Hommell. It will be Hommell's first visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway since his accident that ended his racing career in 2003.

There will also be several race cars on display from 5:00 until 6:00 for fans to get a close-up look before they hit the speedway along with a number of gift cards and cash prize giveaways throughout the night.

On Saturday September 17th, the pit gates open at 3:00, the grandstand and tier gates open at 4:00 pm and the driver’s meeting will be at 6:30 pm and hot laps will roll out soon after. Adult general admission is $20.00 per person while adult tier parking is $25.00 per person and adult pit passes are $35.00 per person.

Earlier this season, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. claimed the $5,000 payday in the WIMZ 103.5 Rockin’ with the Stars race over Skip Arp, T.J. Reaid, three-time SAS Champ Riley Hickman and Tommy Kerr.

So far this season in the UCRA Crate tour, there have been six different winners in nine races. Riley Hickman (two wins), Rusty Ballenger (two wins), Jamie Perry (two wins), Jake Teague (one win), John Ownbey (one win) and Kyle May (one win) have all captured $2,500 paydays this season on the tour. Riley Hickman won the April 2nd event at Smoky Mountain Speedway over Jensen Ford, Jake Teague, Forrest Trent and Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word).
