Chase Junghans Focused on Knoxville this Weekend

Manhattan, Kansas (09/13/16) – After a one-week break Chase Junghans will return to competition this weekend, September 15-17 in the 13th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa). The three-day, crown jewel event posts more than $50,000 in just first-place money over the course of the three-day affair.

“This is one of my favorite events of any season, and that’s why we took last weekend off to make sure we were ready for it,” said Junghans. “Since we dropped off the World of Outlaws tour a few weeks ago, we’ve just been going back through our car and our program, making sure everything is right. In this sport if you are just a little off with your program you can’t be competitive. I think we are now pointed back in the right direction.”

Junghans was last in action over the course of the Labor Day weekend in a trio of regional events. He raced to a runner-up finish with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) on Friday, September 2 before finishing 5th with the Lucas Oil MLRA at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) the next night. He closed out the weekend with a Mid America Racing Series (MARS) Super Late Model event at Monett Speedway on Sunday, September 4, where he retired early to a 20th-place finish.

“We struggled a bit there at Monett, but apart from that we really had a good car all weekend,” said Junghans. “We came up a little short of the win at Lakeside Speedway, and that’s one of the best runs I’ve had at Lucas Oil Speedway. It definitely gives us some confidence heading into Knoxville.”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals open on Thursday and Friday with a pair of $7,000-to-win events. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) draws to a close on Saturday evening with a $40,000-to-win finale at the famed, ˝-mile oval.
