Pre-race setup

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series moves to the historic Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway this weekend for the 37th annual Jackson 100. With March痴 Indiana Icebreaker rained out, the $20,000-to-win event marks the tour痴 first stop at the 1/4-mile oval on the 2016 season.

Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., enters Brownstown as the defending race winner, while series points leader Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., has five career Jackson 100 victories. Among other weekend favorites is former Brownstown track champion Don O誰eal of Martinsville, Ind., who痴 resume boasts four Jackson 100 victories.

Friday痴 program will include Super Late Model qualifying, as well as a full show for Crate Late Models. Super Late Model heat races, consolations and the 100-lap feature are slated for Saturday.

Was that not the most pitiful fight you ever seen? That was a stunt or something. That man couldn't whip his a$$ out a wet paper bag. I can't believe he or defiantly a trainer except for the 30% the trainer gets, would turn him loose to fight. $hit like that gives your wife a reason to leave. That little cutie needs a man who can protect her lol

I took the time to register this evening, just so I could get on here and say that of the hundreds of features I have watched in my life I do think tonights Jackson 100 was the worst. I decided to make the five hour drive to brownstown for the second time in my life. The first was a few years back and was not a good race, I believe Owens led every lap. Then there was tonight, at least an hour of down time a pro stock heat that took a half hour and then that feature. The six dollar tenderloin sandwich was the highlight of the evening.

Just that time of the year buddy. Most of the fresh dirt from the beginning of the season has blown off and the temperature outside hasn't been below 80. Add over 100 cars and 3-400 laps and that's what you get. Tyler county did the same thing. Hard to find that good ole Knoxville dirt

Well I have never regretted traveling to Eldora, I know that much. This has just been a tough year for me as a fan especially one that is trying to get his seven yr old to be a fan, he was asleep on lap ten. I think it might be time to give up on the series races for the most part and just stick to Crown Jewels and tracks that I have come to trust. When it's all said and done I will have $300 into going to tonight's race, for that kind of money I should have stayed home and got good seats to a pro football game tomorrow.

Should have went to Ohio Valley to the Gibbys Championship 57 late models and 48 mods. On the edge of your seat heat races and back and forth lead changes for the feature. Another excellent multi groove dust free surface.
Congrads to Corey Conley on the $5000 win.

Believe it or not a track prep guy at a local kart track used ground up leaves and sawdust mixed with the dirt he added to the track. I watched him dump it on the track as I helped with getting the track ready. That was the best dirt I ever races on. It would get just a little dusty on a day race but as soon as the sun went down you could actually watch the moisture come back, I mean it would actually sweat with water after the races were done at night. This guy had zero track prep experience and he was a farmer with an idea and it worked. I know some motox tracks that use the same leaf/sawdust mixture. He used a lot of leaves and sawdust. It looked kind of funny until it was packed in but it works like a charm. And to bigdirtfan I loved reading where you take your 7 year old son to the track. I remember those days when I was young and I wouldn't replace those days and the time spent with the old man is irreplaceable. Dad would come in from a hard days work, shower up and grab a bite to eat and it was guys night out. My old man won't go racing anymore and it sucks really! He would rather feed deer all summer to get ready for hunting season. I promise your son will remember all the time you spend at the track. I guarantee you guys will create everlasting memories!

Thx centeroff and ya my boy and I like hitting the dirt tracks. We do go to local shows it's about 50/50 for us. The thing is dirtondirt does such a great job on covering the races, my son thinks the late model guys are on tv and his eyes just light up seeing them in person. I'm in a better mood today, I gotta remember the key to happiness is low expectations. The weather was so nice and you hear all these stories about how great brownstown used to be I let myself get way too pumped.

Keep him with you and around the track and that will build a bond like no other. Sounds like you two have it going on like me and my pops did when I was a youngen.. I still have old tee shirts autographed by Purvis, combs, Moyer, Bloomquist well pretty much all the legends of dirt. Remember those days like they were yesterday

BDF, I've been taking my 6 year old for the last two years and what works for me is that I make him sleep on the way -- and if he's the slightest bit tired or cranky at the track I find a place to sit where he can stretch out, and he sleeps with his headphones on through heats and whatever. Like nothing is going on around him. Before the feature hits the track I wake him up and he gets to enjoy it. He is a lot more into it when the big name drivers that he knows are running, or the few local drivers that he knows. If there's not someone to cheer for it's just a bunch of cars going around, he loses focus and doesn't follow the race.

A big part of the problem is the track itself. It's a flat track. Flat tracks really have no place in dirt racing.

And yes, I've been to quite a few flat tracks. Throw in bad prep and it's a snoozer for sure.
