is it a common viewpoint that because of the new style lr behind setups that the 5th coil is not as important as before to create and maintain forward traction in the slick vs indexing birdcages? is there ways to index the birdcage properly without moving them on the cage?

The 5th coil has always been something some guys mess with and something other guys never touch.

What do you mean by index? Rotate the cage starting position? Move the bars on the cage?

5th coil still matters but my opinion is that it is more of a driver feel thing.
"Index" means different things to different people. Some people use that term to mean shortening the top bar and lengthening the bottom bar. Some people use that term to mean lowering the top bar on the birdcage. Both are effective adjustment for slick conditions in most cases.

I was thinking along the lines of shortening and lengthening bars to roll the birdcage forward. I did it by accident before and I created my first ever throttle push , granted it was on a traction track. But now im strugglin in slick. Was curious to try again

By shortening the top bar and lengthening the bottom, you raised the LR lower shock mount (spring behind) statically, which would have added LR (bite) assuming you did not compensate by taking turns out of the LR. Running a shorter LRU bar can achieve the same, but through roll (LR hike). I personally wouldn't get into changing the static indexing (position) of the birdcage very much.

Well how can I achieve more foward in the slick may be some more scotch in center?

Higher center of gravity.

funny you said that. i just raised all my lead to the deck this morning . it was about midway up previously, you think that will make much difference?

I would say so, depending on how much you had.

Moving 20 pounds up 6 inches can be a noticeable difference. Especially if it is center or right of center in the car.
