1300. No money to UMP! But seriously, it seems the LM20 is a little tougher tire. If there is no worries about heat and wear, go 1300 every time. If there is, maybe LM 20 would be better.

MasterSbilt Racer, I'm headed to st. Louis in december for the gateway nats. Any info on the characteristics of the lm20 and lm40. Be my first time on those compounds. I doubt we'll take the 20's off the fronts or lr all weekend or off the rr unless we make the feature. But just wasn't sure what they're comparable to. Thanks.

I know the tire rules. I was just asking how the lm20 performs if the track slicks off in a black streak but still has a big cushion. Or how the lm40 will hold up and which would be best.

Lm40 is closest to a 1600. Same as the 06 Lucas which is 1640.

The LM20 isn't going to produce much traction on black.

Why won't the Lm 20 get traction in the slick?

I don't know, but 1300 and LM 20 usually spin when they hit the black. At least in my part of the country.
Look how horrible the those cars were at the World when forced to run LM20.

So are you saying if it slicks off even with a large cushion I'd be better off on a 40 rr or 3 40's with a 20 lf?

That means nothing. Speed mean nothing. It is all in how much moisture it has.

So you need harder tires when the track gets slick?

hold on hold on tyou only have one corner for choice and that would be right rear no siping and grooving either http://www.gatewaydirt.com/2016/09/26/tirerules/

Depends somewhat on the abrasiveness of the racing surface. Quite often, you can get away with the same rubber but differently prepared (less grooving, shallower siping, etc.) when the surface gets slick. Also depends on the length of the race and how many cautions you expect.

Yeah I know. I'll be at the National 100 all weekend stressing myself out about tires so it'll be nice to not have to worry about it for once.

I think its safe to say that the 1425 has won more races in the last 5 years than any tire out there. I'm pretty sure its the best tire ever made.

I'm also a fan of the White Dot 1600 and the 1300 HTOV lol. the 1300 HTOV was tougher when the local tracks started blowing dust and cleaned off top to bottom. The 44 American Racer was a bad cat in those conditions.

In this part of the country the 1325 is the goto slick track tire. Especially when it starts getting a black streak.
