View Full Version : ***POLL*** Best Late Model Dirt Tracks in America

With all the talk about choo-choo train races, and track prep, concessions, etc...I decided to create a poll basing your vote on the following "overall" criteria; the determining factors in this poll are a combination of 1. Track Prep... 2. Quality of Facilities... 3. Management/track promotor... 4. Concessions... 5. Overall racing experience. When choosing, pick up to 3, as I know it's difficult to choose just 1. Feel free to post your own top 3 for everyone to see.

Tyler Co Speedway, aside from the track getting dusty the racing is second to none. The promoters the Watson are always trying to improve

Lernerville. Even when it's slick its racy as heck and the locals don't mess around when the big boys come to town.

Might want to wait a year or two before including Smoky Mountain. They have a new control tower and concessions building for this year with new restrooms and more on the way. Going to be a real show place in a couple of years. But the owners will be flattered to be included in this list.

Evidently you haven't been to Wheatland MO. You may complain about the 30 min delay before the feature while track prep is maintained, but I guarantee the race track will be smooth and multi groove. They won't race until it's ready. Lucas Oil Speedway is the best track I have ever been to. My first track was Gem City Speedway 1953. So I have seen a few.

The Mag is 1 of those tracks that the slicker it gets, the better the racing gets. The place is fast when it's hooked up but still fast when it slicks off. There are not many tracks that have as wide a racing surface either. For the spectators, I don't think there is a "bad" seat in the grandstands. You can see the entire track no matter where you sit. Good food. Clean bathrooms. And best of all, they very seldom have a show that runs late into the night.

It has been 4 years since a late model has raced at Devils Bowl, but it could be a really good track. Now there was times that it was way too tacky and heavy. Crossed the scales many a night close to 200# over after the feature, but this was mainly at weekly races. Specials would often be more of a dust-free, hooked-up, very fast track. The NCRA & SUPR combo races back in the day always had some good car counts too.

For the fans they get really good seating, good concessions, paved parking, excellent lighting and PA.

Only having visited 15 tracks all in the southeast, I dont know that I'm experienced enough to vote for the best track in America. I'm on board with these guys about the mag, but if we are judging from ALL aspects Boyd's deserves a mention.

East Bay was good!!!

East Bay was good but any track that cancels due to 1/4-1/2 inch of rain cannot be listed as one of the best. High tide or what ever reason they used was very disappointing to us who spent a lot of money to see racing. Don't plan to ever attend again but will order PPV.

They had other issues with turn 3-4 lighting as well on Wednesday night. Not sure about Saturday but someone post on here in the evening and said they were there and it was raining.

I've been to east bay when they break out the airboats to dry the track.......if it's remotely possible , they are racing.

And if you don't live near a tidal region then it's hard to know what the tides do to the moisture in the ground.

Mid Michigan Raceway park Don't get me wrong I love that place but it can not compare or even come close to these other tracks on the list or being named. Like I said I really like that track and the atmosphere but you cant even fit 3 lates side by side. Better modified track IMO

Batesville has to be in there for the track, bleachers, but restrooms suck, concession is mediocre. I think some folks are forgetting all the criteria. Tazewell? Eldora? Florence? I like the tracks, but if u are in the seats, u can't move. It's like at Volusia, u have to get up, stand on your seat to let somebody out. That's one thing about Batesville, u don't have to worry about getting up everytime somebody wants out. JMO

Strictly for the on-track action, there's a lot to be said for Tazewell Speedway, but the facilities leave something to be desired. I agree with the previous poster that said Smoky Mountain is on the way up, it's working its way toward becoming a first class operation and I haven't seen a bad race there yet. Lot of tracks on this list that I haven't made it to...

The first time you go to Tazewell you think it is awesome because of the speed. You keep going, you wish for side by side racing.

Yea if you like watching 7 or 8 super late models racing against 10 crate late models. Sorry although Macon is a neat little track car counts are always low.

Edit.....Plus Macon doesn't super late models weekly.

I go to both the LODLMS 100 lapper and the H & R 100 and I don't believe that is the case at either one of those events.

Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana!

A little off the beaten path and not big enough for "mega-shows" but there has never been -- NEVER BEEN -- a bad Late Model race at Ark-La-Tex Speedway! About 1200 grandstand fans has been the biggest crowd ever but the 3-wide on-track action can't be beat! Ask anyone who's seen a Late Model show there.

You get only two chances a year to watch Late Models there though. That's a product of northwest Louisiana racing economics. First is next Friday, "The Pelican" on March 17th. 2nd will be the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Late Models on Saturday May 6th.

I am kind of surprised that Eldora beat out Kville. Over long term, Kville has better track prep and facilities, Eldora has a better party. The preliminary races at Knoxville are second to none, year after year. Falls is the action track, past present and future. If it had better grandstands on the front stretch, it would have it all.

Shawano Speedway has a great weekly late model show... Track prep is usually spot on. WoO show there is always a sell out.

Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, WI runs an action packed Friday night show with a full program of Wissota classes including late models... Good food and a fast paced program with tons of giveaways and a clean, well kept facility. One of my favorites.

The prelims at Eldora have been pretty good since they went to that format. This, despite their efforts to ruin it with inane tire rules.

Eldora does not have very good track prep. It is a huge facility and a great legend. People are voting for it on those grounds only, it would appear.

Thanks everyone for participating...It's always nice to change things up and see difference of opinions without getting into a knock out drag out argument. Congratulations to FALS! You really can't go wrong with several of these tracks. However, it's hard to argue against what type of facility is being run in the little town of Fairbury. They continue to make track improvements yearly. The new catch fence and brand new dirt should be two great additions this season. Three wide racing on a 1/4 mile dirt track. Who wouldn't be excited about that? FALS has an up and coming track promoter (Matt Curl) who genuinely cares about the true dirt track racing experience for fans AND drivers alike. He is trying hard to continue keeping FALS at the top of everyone's list as "must see tracks". Curl and the rest of the hard working team are their own biggest critics. This in itself goes a long way. Bottom line, FALS gets what it takes to keep the fans coming back. There were some good cases made for places like Magnolia, Lernerville and a couple others. Both of those tracks could make the argument to replace Smoky Mountain, and Charlotte. All in all, a fun poll. Let's hope mother nature treats these tracks and all the great tracks around the country well this racing season!
