McCreadey looked very good in his heat. He passed cars on the bottom and was the only car to do so. Track was as you guys call freight train racing maybe a groove down from the wall in 1-2 and a little higher in 3-4. Stands were light but more people will show tomorrow but the weather could hurt the promotion of this race dramatically. Thanks Dodgecity...I have been to Smoky Mountain Speedway maybe a couple of handful of times and I have to say I've NEVER seen much passing on this track. I'm not sure why. They turn some very fast speeds but the choo-choo train (follow the leader) racing is disheartening to me, quite honestly. While I like high speeds, I like a racing service whereby there is a lot more passing action. It's kind of sad to live in TN and not be able to enjoy racing like the tracks in the Midwest offer, such as Brownstown, Eldora, Portsmouth, etc. I'm not sure if the promoters don't know how to run in/prepare the tracks in TN or what? Perhaps they are too high banked, etc.? Maybe the red clay versus brown clay is the difference? Nonetheless, I have to go out of state to watch great racing, sadly enough.

Thanks for info about sorry track/racing... I'll save my money and time and avoid a wasted weekend going to Maryville!!!
As far as this weekend, weather predictions have been posted all week about freezing temperatures, track deserves what it gets for not rescheduling...

They turn fast speeds at Daytona and Talladega and look how that turns out to be. It's hard to pass when your WFO all the time.

I agree some races are mostly train races, but Smoky puts on some great fast racing at times. And in recent years most races have been fairly competitive. As for East TN tracks having no passing... Tazewell, 411, and Volunteer usually have a great amount of passing. Smoky is worth the trip everytime big drivers are in town, the speed alone has to account for something.I will say I don't see how some get dry so quick around here.

This forecast has been in place all week. The high today is 44 with a north wind. 23 supers. Consolation race? They all make the show. Scratch the non-qualifiers race. It's a good thing 60-70 % of the supers there live within an hour and half from the track.

Except for the fact several of us would have been going except for the weather? The same weather that cost them cars, which in turn makes the consy unnecessary. So that effects the program. Other than that.... yeah.

#FALSuperman
03-11-2017, 12:14 PM
I will have to say I'm a bit baffled by this move. It snowed for 45 minutes and it's already over. The snow never stuck to anything at all. You've already ran the entire set of heat races, and you cancel because of snowflakes that didn't affect one thing. Personally if you are already committed, I feel you should make the effort to finish it. The drivers are ready to go. At this point, you make everyone else look smart by saying the races should have never happened. I don't know the rules, but when they give a reschedule date, only 23 cars can race, correct?

See many saying the consi would have been unnecessary but they were actually going to start 22 cars like normal and send one car to the trailer. The top 4 were transferring with 2 provisionals.

Hate the way this all played out for the track and series.

Surely they were going to start all 23.

I'd say cause there's hardly a butt in the bleachers and the track gonna take a major hit on a 15k to win, 750 to start. Needed those fans. ....on rescheduled date, unless stated by track before, anybody can still show up and start in the back of a 6 or less car b-main.

zach51
03-11-2017, 01:52 PM
Yep, you are absolutely right. It seems as though the fans didn't get near as screwed as the drivers though, unless the track is doing something to reimburse those guys, at minimum for their pit pass. Bloomer is probably chapped, if he never wants to unload for less than 10k, he's gotta be ticked off for putting laps on his stuff for zero (no pun intended). He was probably just testing anyway lol

Seems like they should at least give each car that showed up A-feature starting money to cover a tire and some fuel. That ain't much but at least shows you somewhat give a darn.
