SOMERSET, KY (March 12, 2017)- The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Super Late Model Series is set to return to action with a weekend doubleheader of racing competition with the tour’s first-ever visit to Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA on Friday April 7 and for the first-ever Super Late Model event at the I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN on Saturday April 8. Both events will 30 laps in distance and pay $3,000 to win and $300 to start.
The weekend will begin with a trip to Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA on Friday April 7 as the tour will make its first-ever appearance at the historic facility that has seen many of the legends of southern dirt track racing folklore compete. The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Models will compete in a 30 lap, $3,000 to win contest. Also in competition at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park on Friday April 7 will be the track’s Crate Late Model, Hobby 602, Street Stock, Pony, and Front Wheel Drive divisions.
The weekend concludes on Saturday April 8 with a visit to the Kyle-family promoted I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN for the first-ever Super Late Model event to be contested at the facility. The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Models will compete in a 30 lap, $3,000 to win event. Joining the Super Late Models at I-75 Raceway will be the track’s B-Hobby, Thunder, Sportsman Late Model, Front Wheel Drive, and Four Cylinder divisions, all racing for added money. Also of note, I-75 Raceway has posted a $100 bonus to the highest finishing driver utilizing a CT525 engine and a $100 bonus to the highest finishing driver using an all-Steel engine.
It’s a history-making weekend at both facilities, as it will be the first sanctioned Super Late Model event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park since it reopened late in the 2016 season after being dormant for several seasons. For I-75 Raceway, it will be the first-ever Super Late Model at the facility since the Kyle family has taken over at the refurbished facility. “We’ve wanted one since we opened. The track is racy now and the facility is ready. Fans ask every year when the Super Late Models are coming. We want to please our fans”, stated I-75 Raceway co-promoter Tim Kyle. “We are excited about having the tour and our first Super Late Model event”, added Kyle.
Activities for the Friday April 7 event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m., while the general admission area will open at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 6:45 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 7:00, followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. All times EDT. Ticket prices for the April 7 event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $35.
Activities for the Saturday April 8 event at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set for 7:15 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. All times EDT. Ticket prices for the April 8 event at I-75 Raceway in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, while a pit pass will be $30.
The Super Late Model portion of both program will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series. The tire rule for both nights of competition are as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 and/or American Racer 48 and 56. Those tire compounds are the only legal tire compounds allowed on the front and rear tires. Tire samples will be randomly taken by series officials at both events. The entry fee for Super Late Models will be $80 at each event.
