Ponderosa Speedway’s “Saturday Night Special” Now Kicks Off 2017 SATURDAY April 8
Junction City, KY (April 2, 2017)- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jamie Stumph and co-owner Larry Redenivs are now set to begin the 2017 season at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” with a “Saturday Night Special” on Saturday April 8 that will feature a full racing program for Pro (Crate) Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, Stock Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones.
Of note, the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Division Series event that was weathered out on April 1 will be rescheduled for a later date to be announced. The $600 to win event for the Stock Four Cylinder division that was set for April 1 will now take place on Saturday April 8.
There will be an open practice session for all divisions at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening April 7. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m., with practice beginning at 7:00 p.m. and concluding around 11:00 p.m. A pit pass will be $20, while the general admission area will be free.
The track’s 45th season opener will now be a “Saturday Night Special” on Saturday April 8 that will feature the Pro (Crate) Late Models in competition, racing for $1,000 to win. The Open Wheel Modifieds and KDRA Super Stocks will also be in action on Saturday April 8, with Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $800 to win and KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win. The Stock Four Cylinders and Mini-Cup/Cyclones will round out the racing program on Saturday April 8, with Stock Four Cylinders racing for $600 to win and Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win. All divisions will utilize the practice/time trials combo format to determine heat race starting positions. The track utilizes transponder timing/scoring and transponder rental will be $10 and RACEceivers are mandatory for use in all divisions each time a driver is on the track.
Activities for the “Saturday Night Special” season opener at Ponderosa Speedway on Saturday April 8 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 3:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with practice/time trial combo laps set to begin at 6:50 p.m., while the first race will take the green flag at 8:00 p.m. All times EDT. Ticket prices for the April 8 season opening event at Ponderosa Speedway in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, with children ages 12 and under FREE. A pit pass will be $30, with children ages 6 to 12 $15, while children ages 5 and under FREE.
