Ricky Thornton Jr has left Gressel racing. Back in his own equipment. Be interesting to see how long he stays in the USMTS stuff having to fund everything out of his own pocket.

Wasn't he caught up in the tire scandal?

I thought that would be a great duo. Wonder who fills the Gressel ride now?

Thornton won some USMTS shows in the ride and was running well.

Seems like Ed wants younger shoes. Stormy Scott would be the only one I could think of. He was pretty good what little bit he was in a late model in 2015. I'd like to see Jake O'Neil get a shot at it myself. He does pretty good with what he has.

I think he is saying that Gressel likes getting younger drivers not that Ricky was to old, I think he will pick a driver who is good/great in a modified over a late model driver. They are a USMTS first team and a MLRA/MARS/Corn Belt team second based on history.

No one stays with the Gressel team for very long. They must be hard to work for.

That's not true, Scott Green drove the Gressel cars for a few years, he always had the best equipment but did not do so good. I think when Gustin started they were a 2 car team and Gustin started winning right from the start and Green was gone after that. I think Gustin was the only driver after Green up until late last summer when they parted ways and RC Whitwell started last fall and was done after the Wild West Shootout and then Ricky Thornton up until now. I don't think that's to bad for the last maybe 10 years

Shocking news that Thorton left Gressel just before the 50 thousand dollar June 15 - 17 mod race special @ Cedar Lake,Wis. Then, maybe Thorton wants all of the $ 50000.

Compared to who? Moran, Bshep and, Pierce?

Compared MOST of the top guys in this sport, Stormy is young.....FACT.

Maybe Gustin re-unites with Gressel depending on how the current deal with Hughes is working.....?

Dylan Yoder would be a great choice I'd love to see him get a good ride where all he has to worry about is driving I think that he has what it takes

Maybe Ryan Gustin is the driver Gressel needs.

He didn't say he wants a driver younger than Ricky.... Just younger, as in rather than old...

Jeez, He means he thinks Gressel wants a younger driver in his cars just like Gustin and Ricky Thorton not an older guy. So he's betting the new driver will in his 20's like Gustin and Thorton. He was not calling Ricky old. I hope this helps

Tanner Mullens drove the Gressel Late Model at Longdale, Ok Saturday looks like he will be driving both Late Model and Modified and they will be at I80 Tuesday

Jake O'Neil it is......

I can't believe this hasn't been brought yet. Mullens didn't last long at all. I think Jake will do well in the car, well enough to keep It? Not sure. I think he will be better than anyone they've had since the split with Gustin.

I thought Ricky Thornton was gonna be the perfect driver for that ride.

Ricky Thornton Jr is much more talented and accomplished than Jake O Neil. I am still wondering why he left that ride

When the owner doesn't pay you crap. It's not that hard of a decision.

What was the owner paying huskerdirt? Just curious

I don't know the exact amount, heard it was around 25 or 30% of winnings. Whatever it was, it was enough for Thornton and Whitwell to jump ship. It might be different with O'Neil, but who knows.
