By Michael Despain

JUNCTION CITY, KY – August 4, 2017 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series returned to action on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY for the 20th Annual Pete Abell Memorial and sixth-place starting Hudson O’Neal would put his name in the record books as a Pete Abell race winner and claim the $3,000 payday. The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would also be in action and Victor Lee of Danville, KY would score the $1,000 victory.

O’Neal’s victory would be his first with the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series and would come behind the wheel of the Peak Antifreeze and Motor Oil/Tarpy Trucking/Sub Surface of Indiana/West Side Tractor Sales sponsored #71 Club 29 Race Car powered by a Clements Race Engine. Lee’s victory in the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modifieds would take place in the seat of the Automotive Specialties/Tri-County Auto and Oil/Brunner and Son Lawn Maintenance/Dexter’s Gun and Ammo sponsored #16 MBR Race Car, Pro Power Race Engines powered entry.

Brandon Kinzer would lead the opening lap of the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series main event, only to see Tripp Gerrald motor past him for the lead on lap two. As the field would complete lap five, Gerrald would hold the race lead, with Kinzer and Michael Chilton in tow, with Hudson O’Neal fourth and Chris Combs fifth. As Gerrald was set to start working slower traffic, the caution would wave on lap six when Skylar Marlar would slow his machine in turn four. The restart would also be called back when Carder Miller would spin his machine exiting turn two after a pair of cars got together and checked up in front of him. The restart would see Stephen Breeding work past Combs for fifth on lap seven, while O’Neal would wheel past Chilton for third one circuit later.

Gerrald would start working traffic on lap twelve and O’Neal would drive past Kinzer on that lap to take the second position and as Gerrald carefully worked traffic, O’Neal would close in on the leader and would work past Gerrald on the inside on lap fifteen to take the race lead. O’Neal would motor away from the field at this point and would catch heavy traffic on lap twenty-five and Gerrald would close in a bit, while Chilton would work past Kinzer for third and would challenge Gerrald for second as the field saw the white flag. O’Neal would drive on to claim the win, with Chilton edging Gerrald for the second position, while Kinzer and Breeding completed the top five. Jason Jameson would start back in the twentieth position and would finish sixth, followed by Adam Bowman, Connor Meade, Chris Combs, and Tommy Bailey to complete the top ten finishers.

Victor Lee would take the lead at the start of the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series and would never look back in claiming the victory. Shon Flanary would finish second, with Blake Brown finishing in third. Peyton Harlow and Brent Denny completed the top five.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series next event will be Saturday August 5 at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN, paying $5,000 to win.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will be in action at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on Saturday August 12, paying $1,200 to win
