Jason Hughes Wins Twice: Takes Over Hunt Point’s Lead

Westville, Oklahoma (08/22/17) – Jason Hughes enjoyed a triumphant weekend in his Henryetta Ford #12 Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).

Hughes bagged a pair of victories and took over the point’s lead in The Hunt for the Casey’s Cup.

Thursday night brought Jason Hughes to Pepsi Scotland County Speedway (Memphis, Missouri) for the seventh round of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Hunt for the Casey’s Cup presented by S&S Fishing & Rental. With 35 cars signed in, Jason improved one spot in his heat race to place 2nd behind Cade Dillard. Rolling off 2nd for the feature, Hughes chased Ricky Thornton Jr. to the checkered flag to notch a runner-up finish. Cade Dillard, Cayden Carter, and Stormy Scott completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Friday night Hughes was one of 76 USMTS competitors on hand at Lakeside Speedway (Lakeside, Kansas) for the 2nd annual Grant Junghans Memorial. Gaining five spots in his heat, Jason landed a 2nd-place finish behind Jason Krohn, earning him the 4th-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main.

Working his way into the lead on lap 11, Hughes held the top spot for the next seven circuits until race-winner Rodney Sanders grabbed the lead on lap 19. Hanging on to a podium finish, Jason Hughes notched a 3rd-place finish behind Sanders and Lucas Schott with Stormy Scott and Travis Saurer rounding out the Top 5.

The following night Jason traveled to Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma) for the 5th annual USMTS Salute To Our Veterans presented by Safe Insure Plus. Dropping one position in his heat race, Hughes scored a runner-up finish behind Johnny Scott, positioning him 10th on the starting grid for the feature. After pacing his way through the field early, Jason inherited the top spot on lap 34 after the leader dropped out with wheel issues. Holding off the field on the final lap, Jason Hughes captured his seventh win of the season over Cade Dillard, Travis Saurer, Stormy Scott, and Cory Casper. He was awarded a $3,000 payday for his late-race victory.

Closing out the four-day stretch with the United States Modified Touring Series, Hughes stopped at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) on Sunday evening, where he competed against a field of 42 competitors. Moving up two positions in his heat, Jason charged to an 8-lap heat race win, locking him into the 2nd-starting position for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Leading from flag-to-flag, Jason Hughes cruised to his eighth win of the season over Ryan Gustin, Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek, and Rodney Sanders.

“A month ago I was pretty banged up after the wild ride at Thunderbird Speedway, and to now be back winning and leading the points really means a lot,” Hughes said. “It just goes to show how tough and determined this team is. We’re going to have to dig in deep if we are going to win this championship, so we are more focused than ever on the task at hand.”
