Jason Hughes Hustles to Hamilton County Cash; Leads Hunt Standings

Westville, Oklahoma (08/29/17) – On Wednesday night at Iowa’s Hamilton County Speedway, Jason Hughes picked up his ninth win of the season in his Henryetta Ford #12 Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

“It wasn’t a bad weekend for us,” Hughes commented. “We go to Victory Lane and we were pretty consistent across the board. That’s what we’ve got to do if we are going to win another championship.”

The win, along with a consistent string of finishes, allowed the Oklahoma racer to extend his advantage atop the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) standings.

Jason Hughes resumed action with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) on Wednesday evening as he made the trek to Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) to compete in the 11th annual USMTS Hamilton County Hullabaloo presented by Casey’s General Stores. Drawing 20 entries for the 10th round of the Hunt’s for Casey’s Cup, Jason secured his spot into the opening night feature with a 2nd-place finish behind Cory Crapser in his heat.

With Jake Timm’s leading the field for the opening 12 circuits, Hughes wrestled away the top spot on lap 13 and led the remaining 22 laps to capture his third straight victory and ninth overall on the season. Pocketing a $4,500 payday, Jason Hughes topped Ryan Gustin, Jake Timm, Jake O’Neil and Cade Dillard at the finish line.

On Thursday night Hughes traveled to Nobles County Speedway (Worthington, Minnesota) for the 7th annual USMTS Summer Slam presented by Pace Performance. Passing four cars in his 8-lap heat race, Jason posted a runner-up finish behind Adam Kates locking him into the 8th-starting position for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. After suffering a flat-tire early in the 40-lapper, Jason rallied from the tail of the field to place 7th.

For the 12th stop of the tour, Jason was one of 20 cars signed in at Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) on Friday evening for the 7th annual USMTS Rapid Rumbles presented by Casey’s General Stores. Gaining one spot in his heat, Hughes posted a 3rd-place finish, earning him the 8th-starting position for the feature. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Jason jumped up two positions registering a 6th-place finish.

After Saturday night’s event at Park Jefferson Speedway (North Sioux City, South Dakota) fell victim to rain, Hughes stopped at Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota) on Sunday for the 2nd annual Sandy Benson Memorial presented by Riddle’s Jewelry and Jurgens Printing. Following a 3rd-place finish in his heat race, Jason secured his spot into the $4,500-to-win A-Main with a 12-lap consolation victory. Starting in 13th, Jason Hughes advanced seven spots in the 40-lapper notching a 6th-place finish.

Jason continues to lead the Hunt for Casey's Cup point standings. Complete results and the latest standings can be found at www.USMTS.com .

A trifecta of USMTS Hunt events are slated for the Labor Day weekend. Festivities kick off on Friday evening at Fayette County Speedway (West Union, Iowa).
