Jason Hughes Conquers Cresco; Pads Point Lead

Westville, Oklahoma (09/06/17) – Not only did Jason Hughes push 2017-win tally to double digits over the weekend in his Henryetta Ford #12 Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified, but he also extended his advantage atop the championship standings.

“It was another solid weekend for the team, and puts us in a good position as we head into the finale,” Hughes said. “I’m really proud of this team and how hard everybody has been working. Hopefully in a few weeks we can claim our fourth USMTS championship.”

On Wednesday night Jason Hughes kicked off the busy Labor Day weekend at Kossuth County Speedway (Algona, Iowa), returning to action in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup. Gaining one spot in his heat race, Hughes landed a 2nd-place finish behind Cory Mahder, locking him into the 6th-starting positon for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Passing one car in the 35-lapper, Jason posted a 5th-place finish behind Stormy Scott, Ryan Gustin, Dereck Ramirez, and Ricky Thornton Jr.

The following night Hughes was one of 28 cars signed in at Fairmont Raceway (Fairmont, Minnesota) for the 10th annual USMTS Summer Slam. Improving two spots in his heat, Jason streaked to an 8-lap heat race win positioning him 8th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Breaking into a podium spot, Hughes jumped up five positions to place 3rd behind Ryan Gustin and R.C. Whitwell with Tyler Wolff and Stormy Scott completing the Top-5 finishers.

Friday night brought 26 USMTS followers to Fayette County Speedway (West Union, Iowa) for the $4,500 top prize. Losing one spot in his heat, Jason logged a 2nd-place finish behind Zack VanderBeek earning him the 8th-starting position for the feature. On Saturday evening with 45 Open Wheel Modifieds on hand at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for the 12th annual Labor Day Duel presented by Barclay Landscaping, Hughes slipped back to a 7th-place finish in his heat race transferring him into the B-Main. Sending the Top 6 into the feature, Jason passed seven cars in the 15-lap consolation event to place 5th. Rolling off 21st for the feature, Jason Hughes streaked through the field 13 spots registering an 8th-place finish.

Wrapping up the five-day stretch with the USMTS, Hughes visited Cresco Speedway (Cresco, Iowa) on Sunday for the 15th annual Cresco Bowl. Moving up four positions in his heat, Jason landed a runner-up finish behind Dustin Sorensen, locking him into the pole position for the main event. Leading flag-to-flag, Jason Hughes coasted to his 10th win of the season and a $4,500 payday. Stormy Scott, Jake Timm, Zack VanderBeek, and Travis Saurer completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.

With just one point’s event remaining, Hughes only needs to finish 16th or better in the finale at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on September 21 to clinch his third-straight title and fourth overall.
