Dale McDowell Rebounds for Top-5 Finish in the World 100; Knoxville Next

Welcome, North Carolina (09/13/17) – It would be a giant understatement to say that the 2017 edition of the World 100 was an up-and-down experience for Dale McDowell and his Shane McDowell Racing #17m Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis Super Late Model.

The weekend started with a destroyed car, but ended with a Top-5 finish in the 100-lap finale.

“Thursday night we qualify well, and we are leading our heat race, and then ‘boom’ a lapped car spins in front of us and we end up with a heavily-damaged primary car,” Dale McDowell painfully recounts. “We went to our backup car for the rest of the weekend, and even though we had a huge deficit to overcome, this team never gave up. I’m really proud of the effort given by all of our guys this weekend. To qualify for the feature, much less to come away with a Top-5 finish was a huge accomplishment for us. Hopefully Knoxville will treat us a little better.”

On Thursday night the Shane McDowell Racing team returned to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio), kicking off the 47th annual World 100 weekend. With 105 Super Late Models on hand for the crown jewel, Dale had built a comfortable lead in his heat race until a lap-car made hard contact with the wall and spun down the track, leaving McDowell with nowhere to go. Pulling out his secondary car for his B-Main, McDowell advanced eight spots in his B-Main but fell short of transfer spot with a 5th-place outing.

The following night rolling off 5th in his heat race, Dale edged his way into the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature with the 4th and final transfer spot in his heat race. Starting in 16th in the finale, McDowell improved seven spots to place 9th.

Wrapping up the UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned weekend on Saturday, McDowell posted a 5th-place finish in his heat giving him one final shot at the $50,000-to-win finale with a B-Main appearance. Sending the Top 5 into the show, Dale scored a 3rd-place finish, which positioned him 25th on the starting grid for the main event. Breaking into the Top 5, Dale McDowell advanced through the field 21 spots in the 100-lapper notching a 4th-place finish behind Jonathan Davenport, Gregg Satterlee, and Mike Marlar with Darrell Lanigan coming in 5th.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned weekend opens on Thursday and Friday with $7,000-to-win events. On Saturday night a $40,000-to-win program will be contested.
