Jimmy Mars Prepares for Red Clay Classic this Weekend in Home State

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars headed to his hometown Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin on September 22-23 for the 38th edition of the 'Punky Manor Challenge of Champions.' Behind the wheel of his father-in-law's WISSOTA Late Model, Jimmy won his heat race on Friday night and later started from the pole position in Saturday's $4,000 to win headliner. The popular driver known as the "Iceman" then hung around the front of the strong field throughout the 40-lapper and was running second with a handful of laps remaining when an incident with leader and eventual winner A.J. Diemel resulted in a flat tire on the red #28. Jimmy wound up retiring from the 'Punky Manor' special in the seventeenth position.

In WISSOTA Modified competition, Jimmy ran third in heat race action and later rolled off in the $2,000 to win main event on Saturday evening from the outside of the seventh row. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace then put on a show in front of his hometown fans by blasting past eleven competitors during the 30-lap affair en route to a third place podium showing. Jimmy trailed only victor Jake Hartung and runner-up Dave Cain at the waving of the checkered flag. Complete results from Red Cedar Speedway can be accessed online at www.redcedarspeedway.com.

Next up for Jimmy will be another fall WISSOTA special – the 42nd Annual ‘Red Clay Classic’ at ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wisconsin on September 29-30. He will bring both racecars to the Badger State facility this weekend, as the Late Models will vie for a $5,000 top prize and the Modifieds will race for a $3,500 paycheck.
