Ray Cook Leads Most of Harvest Festival Before Finishing Third; Lucas Double-Dip Next

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and the Wynn Motorsports team strolled through the pit gate at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday night, September 23 for the 'Harvest Festival,' which was sanctioned by the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series. Ray laid down the second quickest time in Group B during the qualifying session, which locked him into the outside of the second row for the start of the $5,000 to win main event.

When outside polesitter Donald McIntosh had problems before the start of the 40-lapper, Ray moved up to the outside of the front row for the drop of the green flag. The Brasstown, North Carolina standout then controlled the field for the first 36 circuits - despite a broken shock bolt - but was passed for the point in lapped traffic on lap 37 by eventual winner T.J. Reaid. Ray wound up slipping back to third by the time the checkered flag was unfurled, as he was behind victor Reaid and runner-up Tommy Kerr. Full results from the 'Harvest Festival' at Smoky Mountain can be viewed online at www.southernnationalsseries.com.

The #53 team will jump right back into competition this upcoming weekend (September 30-October 1) in the Peach State of Georgia, as the ultra-competitive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will roll into both Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia and Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia for a pair of high-profile battles. Up first will be the annual running of the ‘Dixie Shootout’ on Saturday evening, which will pay $12,000 to the winner, while Sunday’s ‘Rome Showdown’ will wrap up the doubleheader weekend with a $10,000 payday. Additional information on both races at the Mickey Swims-promoted facilities can be accessed by pointing your web browser to www.lucasdirt.com.
