Jackie Boggs Best in Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series Paul Salyer Memorial at 201 Speedway

By Michael Despain

SITKA, KY – October 7, 2017 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series would head to 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY on Saturday evening for the $3,000 to win Paul Salyer Memorial event and Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY would be the best of the best on this night as the second-generation speedster would lead all thirty laps in route to the victory.

The victory by Boggs would come behind the wheel of his Central Star Drilling/Quest Energy/McCoy Brothers Logging/Reno and Sons Lawn Care sponsored #4B Swartz Race Car. In addition, the victory by Boggs would make him the fourteenth different winner in fourteen series events so far with the tour in 2017.

Jackie Boggs would take the lead as the thirty-lap grind would get underway, with Chris Combs and Zack Dohm giving chase. Dohm would work past Combs on lap two for the second position and by lap three, Boggs would hold the lead over Dohm, Combs, Brandon Fouts, and Brandon Kinzer. With Boggs pulling away a bit from the field, Dohm and Combs would begin an entertaining battle for the runner-up slot, with Combs clearing Dohm on lap seven to resume the second position. Boggs would continue his torrid pace up front and would catch the rear of the field and start working traffic by lap eleven. Tenth-place starter Eric Wells would get rolling at the point around the top side of the track as he and Brandon Kinzer would work past fourth-place running Fouts on lap twelve, with Kinzer now fourth and Wells now fifth.

As the event approached the lap fifteen halfway mark, Boggs would get caught up in heavy lapped traffic allowing Combs and Dohm to close in on Boggs. But Boggs would make a top to bottom move on the frontchute on lap fifteen to gain some breathing room, while Dohm would reclaim second from Combs on the same circuit. Meanwhile, Kinzer and Wells would battle for the fourth position in traffic and Wells would claim the position on lap sixteen. With Boggs clear of traffic for the moment, he would begin to once again drive away from the field, while Dohm would put some distance on Combs for the second position. Rod Conley would work his way past Kinzer on lap nineteen to enter the top-five runners as Boggs continued to motor away from the field out front. As laps began to slip away, Boggs would continue to build on his lead, while Dohm and Combs had settled into second and third. Conley would catch Wells and that duo would battle for the fourth position, with Conley taking the four-slot on lap twenty-five, only to see Wells rally back around him three circuits later on lap twenty-eight. Boggs would complete the thirty-lap sprint and see the checkered flag first, with Dohm and Combs rounding out the podium finishers. Wells would claim fourth, with Conley settling for fifth. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Kinzer, Eddie Carrier, Jr., top qualifier Freddie Carpenter, Shannon Thornsberry, and Fouts.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series next scheduled event is Saturday November 25 at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN as part of the 2nd Annual Leftover, paying $5,000 to win.
