Cla Knight Records Runner-Up Finish in Showdown on the Coast

North Augusta, South Carolina (10/10/17) – Cla Knight raced his Augusta Aquatics #42 E-Z-GO Golf Carts/ Penske Shocks Longhorn Crate Late Model to a runner-up finish in the finale for the 20th annual Showdown on the Coast.

“It was a solid performance for our team,” Knight said after starting and finishing second in the 40-lap feature event. “The start of the feature was real key, and Mark (Whitener) did a great job to get the lead at the start of the race. Me and Travis (Pennington) had a pretty good race there for the runner-up spot. To set quick time and get a second-place finish against this caliber of competition, I definitely can’t complain.”

Saturday found Cla Knight in action at Oglethorpe Speedway Park (Pooler, Georgia) for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series doubleheader. Rain the night prior forced the two scheduled events to be consolidated into a single day.

With 30 Crate Late Models on hand for the first round of the Showdown in Savannah, Cla secured his spot into the $2,000-to-win opener after laying down third-fastest time in his qualifying group. Running into trouble on the second lap, Knight was an unfortunate, early retiree from the 30-lap affair.

Later Saturday evening, Knight posted the fastest time overall in qualifying for the second program, positioning him second on the starting grid for the $3,000-to-win finale. Battling at the front of the pack for all 40-laps, Cla Knight notched a runner-up finish behind Mark Whitener with Travis Pennington, Kerry Gibbons, and Shane Rimer rounding out the Top 5.

This weekend – October 13-14 – will find Cla Knight competing at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) with the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series. On Friday night a $2,000 top prize will be on the line, while Saturday night’s program will be headlined by a $2,500-to-win at the track, known as “The Hornet’s Nest.”
