Was kind of surprised he showed up last night at Georgetown (De) Speedway. According to the announcer he was debuting a new CJ Rayburn chassis. The fans around me appreciated him making the long tow. The feature is tonight.

I don't recall anyone saying he doesn't travel. In fact, it's just the opposite, that he travels pretty far at times, passing up shows that were closer to home (and I'm not looking to open up the argument again, just pointing out what has been debated at times).

But, while on the subject, there was an article on DoD in which Rusty went into detail as to why he travels to some of the races he does. A major reason was to show that their new cars are capable of winning at various tracks in various parts of the country, which certainly makes sense from a marketing standpoint. He also explained why the National title is so important to him, not only for the prestige, but to help pay the bills through the winter as he utilizes his earnings while racing to keep racing.

I, as a "naysayer" for sure, greatly appreciated the article and Rusty's explanation of some things, not that he ever had to justify his reasoning behind them. Glad to see he's getting in another race or two before winter.

Well im sure his new car will be faster then the last. Considering he has ran over 70 races and 40 of those races he finished no worse then a third. He has a lot of talent and im sure he will show that at the world finals in a few more days. I think if they can get a good motor program together i see him running the world of outlaws next year and i know CJ is pushing for that to happen!

Rusty started 8th last night. Worked his way into the top 5, encountered some problems and finished 12th. Elliott, Hubbard and Hardy were the top 3.

I don't think they are exactly "newer" engines. Someone here said awhile back and not sure if it was true or not but one of them they are running was like 3 or 5 yrs old.

Reality is Schlenk keeps putting away, year in year out. People want to dog him because he runs an economical schedule that maximizes the chances of staying in the black and taking home a little money to boot. With a shoestring budget compared to all national, most regional, and a fair few local guys, the strategy makes absolute sense. Racing needs more guys like Schlenk to stay viable with the astronomical costs of the latest greatest innovations. He’s out there getting it done with a budget smaller than some modified teams. Don’t knock the guy, respect the shrewdness. Better Rusty have success than the next silver spoon with zero regard for fellow competitors.

Comments like this irritate me for simple fact of money. If I had car together and you sent me $2500 to race a weekend I'd show but if knowingly on my dime with provisions, lack of track surface & knowledge would not spend my $2500 with a 15% at best chance of making show. Racing is a business and teams have to look at it that way or their outta business. Why everyone think we keep losing more teams than gaining???

You haters will be real suprised to hear that the 91 car he drove to victory lane the first night of summernationals racing at Oakshade has an engine that was Matt Millers first aluminum engine that is over 10 plus years old that Kercher keeps putting back together for Rusty...so if he had the new wide bore motors instead of 21 wins and 40 plus top 3 his stats might even be bigger...and just like Davenport when Rusty drives your car you can be pretty sure he is parking it in Victory Lane for you!!!

Easy Killer.......... He didn't win on Friday night Oakshade SN's, he came up 8 laps short, finished 2nd to Bobby Pierce.

Anyone who knows anything about DLM racing knows Rusty Schlenk can flat out wheel a DLM.

The beauty of it is he's only 31 years old and his program is getting better, consistently, year after year.

Just for the Hater's and Dumb A$$es. He went to Georgetown to shake down a new car before Charlotte this weekend. Yep, he's dodging the competition again.

It's only a matter of time until he lands his a$$ in A-Level equipment.

It's going to be great......

TheJet-09

So I'll bite and consider myself a hater, and most certainly a dumba$$, but for argument sake, every year it seems to be the same story regarding Rusty: "Just wait!" "Just wait till he gets better equipment!" My question to the supporters would be: "If he deserved better equipment, wouldn't he have it by now?" I mean, what more does he need to do? Win three national titles? Win 30 or 40 times a year?

While I couldn't name them, from what I see in passing there are a number of quality teams (at least equipment wise) that have a virtual revolving door of drivers, yet never Rusty? Shirley found a ride for this weekend, but doesn't need one (or at least he doesn't need better equipment). I just wonder if there's more to it? Has he turned down rides to remain his own boss?

I know he has a number of loyal, passionate fans, many who post on here, and I'm not trying to insult the man or his fans, but I'm sure I'll hear it. With that, I agree to tap out in 3...2...1...

What exactly seems to be the problem?I don’t see the issue either. I mean, if I was paying the bills and his fuel, then I might have an issue with some of his trips. But I’m not, he runs well, especially for having a lower budget, and doesn’t have a reputation of racing dirty. So who cares where he races if you aren’t paying his bills.

There will be a lot of very good regional drivers that will never make or win a "crown jewel." Does that make them any less competitive? In my opinion, NO.

Where did carpenters finish, ruhlmans, pierces, feger, etc.... The list could go on. Did you really think he'd make show? Events like this take a lotta things and some of that is luck. Personally I read on here often of folks bragging about their drives from down south and some impress but some don't. Why get stupid cause some fans brag about their regular from up north? Don't see anyone dogging Ferguson for not changing water pumps and racing but you dog schlenk for racing and not making show (dropped out in b-main), what's difference?? Hell where's carrier Jr, Greg Johnson, Billy Moyer etc? Some of this crap on hear is just stupid and senseless. Let's look at facts, schlenk owns a ump national championship. Bloomquist owns a summer Nat's championship. Pierce owns both as well as a n/s win. All these drivers race for a purpose and it's about wins and money. Least up here we see racing. We get hotlaps, qualifying, heats, b-mains (on occasion), and A-mains. That's a lot of racing in one night to prove how good a driver is and also a driver to use to make himself better but some will never understand until they've witnessed it
