View Full Version : Bronson Earns Pole For NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS $10K-To-Win Southern 100

MILTON, FL – Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL earned the pole position on Friday night by winning the first of four eight-lap heat races for the $10,000-to-win 10th Annual Southern 100 on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. The top four finishers in each the four heat races on Friday night transferred into Saturday night’s Southern 100.

Bronson started on the outside of the front row for the first eight lap heat race and beat polesitter Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN off the second turn on the outside, and then cruised to victory in the Brandon Collision Rocket.

Grant Garrison of Walton, KY, who is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings and leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings, won the second eight-lap heat race will start on the outside of the front in the Southern 100 driving the Darrell Lanigan Racing Special.

Second generation driver Travis Pennington of Stapleton, GA won the third eight lap heat race in the Excel Racing Solutions Special and will start the Southern 100 on the inside of the second row on Saturday night. Local favorite Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL won the fourth heat race on Friday night, and will start on the outside of row two driving the Three Trade Consultants Special.

Johnson, a three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee finished second in the first heat driving the Josh Roberts Trucking Special and also transferred into the Southern 100. Also coming out of the first heat race were Tyler Turvin of Ochlocknee, GA in the T&J Steel Special and Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL in the ULC Motorsports Special.

Coming out the second heat race behind Garrison are Walker Arthur of Forest, VA in the Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms Special, Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, FL in the CURS/RV Select Special, and Bryant Marsh of Corinth, MS in the Modern Woodmen Financial Track Star.

Second through fourth respectively in the third heat were Shep Lucas of McKenzie, AL in the Lucas Farms CVR, Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS in the B&M Salvage Rocket, and Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year candidate as well as the defending Southern 100 Champion Andy Picklesimer of Ooltewah, TN in the Hyma Motorsports Rocket.

Following Joiner and transferring into the Southern 100 on Saturday night out of the fourth heat race on Friday night were Jeff Mathews of Apollo Beach, FL in the CURS/RV Select Special, Steven Jernigan of Milton, FL in the JEI Logging GRT, and Devin Dixon of Red(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word), FL in the Dave’s Towing Rocket.

Among the top drivers still not qualified for the 10th Annual $10,000-to-win Southern 100 is the 2016 and 2017 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model National Champion Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN. Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) was involved in an opening lap crash in the first heat race, and he had to retire his Eagle Racing Engines Rocket.

Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) will start on the tail of the first ten-lap B-Main, but if he finishes outside of the top three transfer spots, Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) can take a series Provisional to earn the 23rd starting spot in the Southern 100. Two other NeSmith Late Model top five point drivers will start a B-Main on Saturday night.

The driver that is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National points and second in the Cruise With The Champions Rookie points, 14-year-old Colton Horner of Katy, TX starts on the pole position of the first ten-lap B-Main in the Houston Specialty Products Special. T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL is fifth in the NeSmith National points, and third in the Rookie points, will start fourth in the first B-Main driving the Brittain Hauling Warrior.
