Ray Cook and Wynn Motorsports Wrap Up 2017 Season with Top Five in Gobbler 100

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The Wynn Motorsports team and driver Ray Cook unloaded a new Capital ride - armed with a 525 motor - for their 2017 season finale on November 24-25 at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, Georgia. The annual running of the 'Gobbler 100' was sanctioned by the National Late Model Series (NLMS) and paid $10,000 to the winner. On Friday night during preliminary action, Ray stopped the clock third quickest in his group during the qualifying session prior to running second in his heat race.

The Brasstown, North Carolina standout then rolled off from the inside of the second row in Saturday's grand finale. After falling back early in the 75-lapper, Ray blitzed back up to second in the running order until he was caught in the wrong lane on a couple of double-file restarts. The popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" battled to a solid fifth place performance in the 'Gobbler 100' and trailed only victor Wil Herrington, Rhett Carter, Hunter Carter, and Devin Dixon to the finish line. Complete results from the Thanksgiving weekend showdown in the Peach State can be found by pointing your web browser to www.cochranspeedway.com.

With his 2017 campaign now complete, Ray can look back on a solid season that saw him enter only twenty-four races due to his commitments with promoting the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series, the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series, and the Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina. Hooking up with Wynn Motorsports for the first time in early June, Ray finished the year with seven Top Five finishes and eleven Top Ten performances. His lone win of the year came behind the wheel of Jason Deal’s #7 Crate Late Model, as he pocketed the $2,500 payday in a special at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia back on August 5.

Ray is scheduled to enjoy a very short off-season, as the Wynn Motorsports team is slated to unload for the first time in 2018 on Monday, January 1 in the annual ‘Hangover’ race at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee. Ray is the defending winner of the $4,000 to win program for the Super Late Models, as he brought home the win on December 31, 2016.
