View Full Version : Measuring flywheel / starter gap ?

I'm having some issues with the starter not engaging properly. How do you guys measure the flywheel / starter gap ? Looks like it needs to be .060 or so ? Bert bell housing.

I think what you need to check is the idler gear to flywheel gap. I just came in from underneath.

^^^Agreed. I just stacked enough feeler gauges together, like checking the gap on a crank trigger. But it is certainly the idler gear to ring gear gap, which changes with the starter removed (at least on my set-up), so everything needs to be together. If you have the oil pump mounted, I think it's too hard to try and measure from up top.
