MBH Birdcage Settings

Who’s Knows the MBH setting for Shock Drop on the Birdcage? I’ve seen 7 and 7 and 5 on LR and 6 on rr which one is right or neither?

A 34,35 REAR WILL TAKE A 22'' J BAR AND THE SIDE TO SIDE WILL BE 15 ¾''. THE LR SHOCK MOUNT WILL BE 9 ½'' AND THE RR WILL BE 7 7/8''

A 34,34 REAR WITH A 22'' J BAR AND SIDE TO SIDE OF 15 ¾'' WILL BE STANDARD WITH A 1'' WHEEL SPACER ON RR. THE LR SHOCK MOUNT WILL BE 9 ½'' AND THE RR SHOCK MOUNT WILL BE 6 7/8''

A 34,34 REAR WITH A SHORT J BAR MOUNTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME WILL TAKE A 20 ½'' JBAR WITH A SIDE TO SIDE OF 14 ¾'' WITH A 1 '' WHEEL SPACER ON THE LR. THE LR SHOCK MOUNT WILL BE 8 ½ AND THE RR WILL BE 7 7/8''

A 32,36 REAR WITH A 21'' J BAR WILL HAVE A SIDE TO SIDE OF 16 ¾'' THE LR SHOCK MOUNT WILL BE 8 ½'' AND RR WILL BE 7 7/8''. A 1'' WHEEL SPACER IS NEEDED ON LR TO PUT IN STANDARD LOCATION

A 32,35 REAR WILL TAKE A 21'' JBAR WITH A SIDE TO SIDE 16 3/4'', 1'' WHEEL SPACERS WILL BE RUN ON THE LEFT REAR AND RIGHT REAR TO KEEP THE TIRE LOCATION IN STANDARD SETTING. THIS OPTION ALLOWS YOU TO MIGRATE YOUR TRACKING LEFT TO RIGHT BY CHANGING YOUR WHEEL SPACERS AND NOT ADJUSTING J BAR LENGTH. THE LEFT REAR SHOCK MOUNT IS 8 ½'' AND THE RR IS 6 7/8''.

WE HAVE MOVED A LOT OF GUYS RR BIRDCAGE IN ½'' TOWARDS THE CENTER SECTION WHICH SEEMS TO HELP TRACTION OF THE CAR.

I'm not a masterbilt guy but I'd go 7" LR and 6" RR.

Honestly never thought to ask Tader. I didn’t know if after all the stuff between Billy and Them if he would give much support on an MBH. The few times I talked to Billy he was terrible to deal with.

There are very few good builders to deal with unless you order 2 new cars every year. I wish Donnie Adams built late models.

Well it’s seems like once MBH went to the Wylie stuff then Black Diamond he doesn’t even want to talk about an MBH. Maybe it’s just me, but I know a lot had similar stories and abandoned MBH all together some that bought 2 a year lol

Not to hijack, but hopefully somewhat related: Are most starting with the rear links mounted on the birdcage 4 1/2" from the centerline of the axle tube (as in the "indexing"), making the heims 9" apart? I just realized that on the PPM birdcages I have, 4 1/2" off the centerline is actually the closest holes, and where I've been running them is more like 5 1/2" off center.

I understand the effects on indexing, but was just curious if 4 1/2" is most everyone's starting point. Thanks!

Over the last day or too I’ve come to the conclusions most of this is just going to depend on what your driver and car likes. It has to match the package deal between driver, motor, setup and track. I got a bunch of different answers. Like on the MBH you have a few different rear ends and different drop packages it all takes into account. I do think most have experimented with more then 4.5 on the LR

If you not doing anything exotic then I would give this generalization guideline:

Upper bars 4.5" or possibly less
LRL 4.5" or possibly more
RRL 4.5" or possibly less

That's very general though and doesn't mean you might not vary from that at all.

It gave some speed in the slick. When we added rear droop to it and ran 0 wedge is when we unlocked the speed from the 5 inch shock drop
