I don't think it will be a "Million", but it will be a really great purse with a good promoter. Win win.

I don't think it will hit 1 million. Also I think it wont rival the World 100 on car count but it will surpass the Dream. You will get the normal 40 or so Lucas guys that would show there and maybe 35 or 40 more guy that want the money. So I will say 75 to 85 cars. About 10 years or 15 years ago if Eldora did this you would have seen 240 cars just not that many around as far as regional or local guys to draw from. Also in August a lot of tracks running points.

I wouldn't go to a race not knowing the purse ahead of time. The guys that did that for Dome I, were very disappointed.

You will have your 12 Lucas guys, a handful of WoO like Sheppy, Moran, Turbo, etc. It will draw a lot of regional guys within 3-4 hours from Mansfield I would think. (Carrier, Drown, Carpenters, Dohms, C. Conley, Hawkins, Markham, etc.) I will guess 75-85 lates.

Her is the problem with this there is no incentive to donate money for example if you gave them a shirt for a 100 a shirt that they could only get by making a donation and so on as the donation goes up other wise how you going to feel and how is the other person going to feel if you go in and sit down and the guy next to you tells you he donated a bunch of money that's messed up its not a bad idea if you give the people something for making a donation.

They like to say this will be the largest purse in dirt racing lets get the facts straight it will not be highest paying race even if they get to a million dollar purse.Eldora ran a million just to win race.

Yes Eldora purse was 1.2 million and the entry fee was $500. They probably made around $140,000 on entries alone. That is unheard of and will never happen again IMO.

85 to 87 dollar admisions to 16,000 fans equals 1.8 million. Then add a huge sponsorship from J W Hunt, the consessions, vendors row intake, parking and camping incomes, programs and lineups, the bar make a killing. They still made BIG money.

It's a 100,000 to win, 2,000 to start race...any other money is just bonus money folks... Why wouldn't they get 80 to 100 cars...there are no big races scheduled against it...it's as much money as any race has paid in the last 15 years..and dont forget when you guys talk about 200 cars at eldora back in the day, remember a lot of guys entered and qualified 2 cars back then...if gateway can get a 100 cars for 30,000 , i'm sure they will come for a hundred grand...
...just sayin

Eldora pays 100,000 to win every year.

latemodelman

HighGroove actually the purse is right around what the DREAM pays that's if no one donated money. Also back when Eldora had 200 or more cars they allowed a driver to run 2 cars back in the 1980's Even then you had maybe 30 guys run 2 cars. Then it went to 1 car per driver in the 1990's and you had 202 to 262 cars. In 2007 they had 203 cars and in 2009 172 cars then it went to 135 cars and then 120 to 104 cars from 2011 to 2017.

Gateway doesn't get 100 and it is in the dead of winter. You can't race anywhere else. Half the cars in Illinois and Missouri come.

This is a event where the promoter has "thought outside the box". It's different, and that what DLM racing needs.

Never seen a race at Mansfield but I hope the track is racy or this race wont be around long...Eldoras events are huge because the racing is good...

I'm not sure they will get to a million in payout; but I think it's possible they might get to $750K with the $250K to win. It will all depend on How much they make off of pre-sale before the race weekend. The link says the Dirt Million website should be up some time in January. So they will have about 7 1/2 months to sell race tickets, souvenirs sales, folks buy reserve seats, Entry Fees, concession stand sales, ECT. This could turn into something BIG if it is promoted well and advertised correctly.

It could be but it is not going to because they have already started out wrong and I don't think they are going to correct it.

I think there's a few other contributing factors in that besides it being in the dead of winter.

Well dlmfan123 the way you should do it is say someone donates a 100 dollars give them a t shirt that they can only get by making a donation the at 150 or 200 give them a cap an t shirt then at say 400 give the t shirt cap an jacket this is just an example you need to give people something for a donation if I just want to donate money I can think of a lot better places to donate it I'm self employed and I donate a lot of money to people that real need help during the year.

I've seen this mentioned before. When they had 250+ cars back in the nineties, they did not have two cars.

I'd pay $100 for a Bloomquist t shirt and to sit in the driver's seat of the hauler for 5 mins.

I think motivation is THE issue. Why in the world would you donate money to them?? I mean the race is already paying 100,000 to win. So, the fans are expected to buy a pretty expensive ticket....and then donate extra money out of the goodness of their hearts?? It just doesn't make sense. It would be just like going to any race and walking up to the window....."I know tickets are 25.00....but I'm going to pay 100.00"
Why, as a fan would I care if the race pays 100,000 to win, or 110,00, or 150,000 or 200,000?

I give the guy props for a new concept for a high paying race, but this post is my exact same feeling. Ticket, travel, lodging and a donation? I know you don’t have to donate, but I think it’s a tough sell to the average fan to help up your already top heavy purse
