Looks like a Hot Wheels car or something! Very cool! Good luck to him. I'm sure he will represent Illinois well!

That's what all of the "down-under" cars look like.

That's what all of the "down-under" cars look like.

Only in New Zealand. They run legit late models in Australia.

They call them Saloon cars and use EFI and large tires on the rear, in NZ.

AU's West coast run's American style LM's and east coast is more heavily super sedans but are slowly converting to American LM's. The NZ cars more resemble the super sedans.

This is whats known as a "Super Sedan", but like JB said they have actual late model too.

What is the configuration of these cars ? Weight motor wheelbase ? Could this be a class here in the states ? I think these are cool looking...
Can anyone educate me on these ?

Full tube chassis, like a sprint car, underslung front and rear
360 CI V8, steel block alum head 750HP
Runs on alcohol
Some have the radiator mounted in the deck at the rear of the car
Use Sprint car RR tire
some use jacobs ladder mounted to RS of bell instead of J-bar
Rear suspensions are diverse: mono/coil, 4 link, 3 link, swing arm, etc.
use sway bars
Have max and min wheel track in relation to body rules, which are strictly enforced

That's all I can recall at present, I helped a friend of mine who runs one in the Victoria Super Sedan Series, "Brad Wick".

The class Jason is racing in is called Super Saloons here in NZ. The car is the same one one Bobby Pierce drove last year. The rules are quite restictive in some areas and wide open in others. Engines have a maximum of 434ci, steel block, ally 23 degree heads if Chev, fuel injection or carb, gas or alcohol. The weight of the car with driver goes up with engine capacity, eg 358ci has to be 2390lbs, 427ci-2582lbs. The majority of cars run cross torsions in the rear and coilovers in the front. Weight jackers are allowed. Because we run steel blocks with the #1 plug in line with the centre of the front stubs it is hard to get the desired rear weight so most cars run a Bert East Coast modified type gearbox mid mounted in the car. The starter motor, dry sump, fuel and p/steer pumps are all mid mounted also. Most cars can achieve 57-58% rear with this set up. Wheelbase is generally around 103". The bodies rules have been loosened up over the last few years so they are starting to look more like late models. Wheels are still steel, width is open. RR are normally 17" wide, LR- 15" and 13 or 14" on the front. Tires are open. Try picking up a 17" wide steel rim with beadlock and a 104" tire, lol. Hope this helps. I will be competing with Jason in the BK Pro Dirt Series and it is great to have another American driver down here to follow on from Bobby's visit last year. This Sunday night at Huntly Speedway is also the NZ Midget Championship with three Americans competing so with the BK Series there as well it should be a great show.

That car would not hook up very well on a dry slick track. But it would apply to all of the cars competing.

Here is a race with these cars. This particular track seems more suited to go carts. lol

Did he switch chassis this year? He needs a decent year after last year's rough go

Agreed! Most tracks can afford to drop 1 of their 5-6 "stock" whatever classes and pick these up. Id much rather see something like that in place of 2 or more classes of "stock" caprices or cavaliers

Or even over 3 LM classes where your lucky to have 10 cars in each
