Who is your favorite driver that doesn't follow a national series and is up-and-coming that people should keep an eye on?

It's way early yet, and I always lean towards guys that come from big blocks, but I'll go with Mike Maresca.

Mike Maresca has caught my attention with his good showings during speedweek. I believe they said last night that he will follow the WoO tour this year.

Far from up and coming, but I root for 55 VanWormer. I'll second everyone tossing Tyler Carpenter's name out there.

Anyone familiar with Tyler Bruening? He's made both shows at Volusia and had a great run the first night. He was struggling last night but I think a lot of people were due to viability.

Lake traveled a good bit last year, he ran in my area a bunch. I seen at the end of last season they were going to cut back on racing this year, and switching to rocket cars from longhorn.

It sounds like money dried up is the reasoning for cutting back.

Been watching him in the Upper Midwest for several years - he's had a lot of success in IMCA LM but has started running more and more open shows in recent years with decent results.

Sold the Longhorns and toter home end of last year. Supposedly had his High Gear Speed Shop sold but that deal fell thru. New Rocket with their shock package on the way. New smaller trailer on the way. Shop still in business on Rt.857 just south of Uniontown. Plan on chasing bigger races on a regional basis. Straight from the horses mouth at East Bay.

THANK YOU for mentioning Nick Anvelink!!!

Nick and Mitch McGrath are hands down the top two young late medel shoes in Wisconsin, imho.

I'd love to see Nick get the opportunity at some point to run the Summer Nats and a few more WoO/Lucas events to see how he stacks up.

Nice kid. I wish Nick all the best!!

I will never forget the USA nationals a few years ago when he had it in the bag with his wissota car but couldn't get the win cause didn't have enough fuel to make it all the way that was a bummer but fun to watch him kick a-- in a wissota car he dominated that weekend

Most of my favorite guys don't follow tours
Babb Feger Unzicker Mars Moyer from the Midwest.
Tyler Carpenter Eddie Carrier from that neck of the woods

One of the biggest draws for me to DLM racing is that there's so many guys I like to see do good. The list of ones I dislike is way shorter

Zonks,

By racing standards Nick isn't "young" anymore. He turned 39 at the end of January which makes me feel old having known him for about 35 years.

I don't think he'll expand his schedule much more than what he is doing now. To his credit, family is far more important than racing is. If his kids told him to hang it up he'd stop without any regrets at all. To me that's far more admirable than any wins a guy could ever have. I love to joke with him after any win or good run by congratulating him and then reminding him that "your dad could still run circles around you." The best part of this is that those who know how deep our connections run will laugh at it....but the "hangers on" who have no understanding of this sometimes get very annoyed.

One of the neatest things about Nick, and it's tied back to that whole balance/family thing is that he could go out and win the biggest race of his life on a Saturday night. Then a few hours later he'll walk into a church with his wife and kids. Other guys would probably be recovering from a hangover. He's just a normal dude who grew up around the sport, who had pictures of Billy Moyer Jr. in his bedroom, and builds fire trucks as his day job.
