Putting together a sb2 motor and installed the cam strait up and the intake valve hits the piston way before tdc right before the intake stroke. Only way to fix it was to jump the cam sprocket back a tooth and the crank sprocket at -6 degrees. Anyone ever had a cam that was ground way off or a timing chain that was marked horribly wrong?

You need to degree the cam to make sure Its ground right.

Cam was fine. Found out the valve was hitting the edge of the pockets. I don't think the pockets are cut right.

Put check springs on and look down through the ports with the rockers removed.
