Would love to see more race tracks using this stuff to help with their track prep.

Like...

I used a water wetter back in the80's at one of my tracks. Expensive ($900.00/55 gallons) but it was effective,. Calcium Chloride also works good... I even used that on the gravel spectator entrace roads... no dust!

Didn't the EPA take the calcium chloride away, or maybe it was just the cost? And is it true that Mooney Starr uses laundry detergent or something down at Batesville?

The WOO used that stuff on Carolina Speedway a few years back no dust but the track came all apart. The dirt wouldn't pack down.

And is it true that Mooney Starr uses laundry detergent or something down at Batesville?I know they used to use it. You could see the suds when they watered the track. Worked pretty good for keeping the dust down. I don't think they use it anymore, it gets dustier than it used to when it blows off.

Mixing soap with the water will keep the dust down too.

Liquid Tide and/or Basic H is what we used in the early 80's.

I wonder if whatever is in this stuff can be picked up by the tire leading to a failed tire test for not meeting benchmark.

Please send a whole semi load to Brownstown Speedway!!!!

Instructions say to till the dirt though.

Looks like me and dalemcfan had the same idea. If tracks did start using it I wonder how long before somebody got busted for hot tires then claimed the stay wet caused it and attempted to sue the company that makes it.

I remember when goats were allowed onto eldora the week leading up to big events. Their urine coused a chemical reaction that made the dirt a tacky gum like texture that didn't breakdown and stayed sticky the whole night!

So, those weren't just dirt pellets hitting me in turn 4

Just curious what the SDS sheet is on it. They used something at Atomic/KC when Nier had it for the DTWC, worked pretty good if I remember correctly.

Wonder if the tires meet the ( cough, cough) benchmark after they run on it........

Guess it really depends on who you are.

I,ve watched Bob Sargent pour gallon jugs of something into the H2O truck before. Have no idea what it is. Track is always #1 !

That's the same stuff they used on the track at the first dome race. Not much dust, but a lot of holes. They clearly used too much the last night, it was rougher than a night in jail.

pretty sure they used calcium chloride at atomic back in the 1970's. a lot of tracks did...

What does Eldora use? I thought it has smelled like some sort of soap for the last few years. Whatever it is I think they used it at Brownstown for the No Way Out 40 cause it smelled the same.

There isn't any magic substance that's going to keep the track tacky and racy without drawbacks. Figuring out what a track needs (and that changes from week to week dependent on weather and the like) is a process that takes years to figure out.

Soap has been used for years due to how it works. Soap has two properties. They are hydrophilic so they love to attach to water and keep it. They also have hydrophobic properties which hate water and attach to things like dirt and grease. That is why it works. It attaches to the dirt and contaminants in the track and suspend the water which doesn't let it evaporate as quickly. It keeps the dust to a minimum while bonding the track surface. However, a little goes a long ways. To much and the track clumps up and you get the dreaded holes and ruts. Most soaps are also biodegradable rather quickly which allows them to not contaminate the ground water or soil around the track.

When we've been at Kokomo Speedway over in Indiana early enough as to see them still watering the track we've noticed a heavy dense foam coming out the top of the water truck as the tank is getting close to being full. Don't have a clue what is in the tank producing the foam but whatever they're doing they're doing it right 'cause Kokomo Speedway has the most consistent high quality track prep of anywhere I've ever watched a race and that includes Fairbury. That's saying something because FALS consistently does a great job with track prep but Kokomo is always just a tick better than even FALS.
