Rodney Sanders Records Two-Win Weekend with USMTS
Modified Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway this Weekend

Happy, Texas (06/12/18) – On Thursday night Rodney Sanders raced to the 81st USMTS triumph of his career with a win at 81 Speedway. The next night at Dodge County Raceway Park the driver of the Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified was at it again with his second-straight victory.

The weekend wins pushed his 2018-win tally to four.

“It seems like over the past month or so we’ve found some speed and some luck, and we were able to showcase it this weekend in all three events,” Sanders said. “It was really cool to get our 81st series victory too. Back when we started running with the USMTS I just wanted to win a single race, so to win over 80 is something I’m really proud to have accomplished.”

Thursday night found Rodney Sanders returning to competition with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas), where he was kicking off the Sunflower State Showdown. In a field of 35 cars, Sanders jumped two spots in his heat race, reeling in a third-place finish.

Earning the 10th-starting position for the opening night feature, Rodney overtook race-leader Johnny Scott on lap 29 and held off the 26-car field in the final 11 circuits to pick up the $2,500 payday and his third victory of the season. The win marked Sanders’ 81st career USMTS triumph. Scott, Zack VanderBeek, Stormy Scott, and R.C. Whitwell completed the Top-5 finishers.

For the second round of the Sunflower State Showdown the team traveled to Dodge City Raceway Park (Dodge City, Kansas) on Friday night, where Rodney passed three cars in his heat race to finish second behind Lucas Schott.

Rolling off third for the $3,000-to-win A-Main, Sanders ran third in the first 20 circuits until slipping past Johnny Scott after a restart. Overtaking Stormy Scott on lap-31, Rodney Sanders navigated his way through lap traffic in the final nine laps to capture his fourth win of the season. Johnny Scott, Zack VanderBeek, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Dereck Ramirez rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.

On Saturday at Salina Speedway (Salina, Kansas) for the final night of the Sunflower State Showdown, Sanders dropped two spots in his heat to finish fourth. Earning the 12th-starting position for the finale, Rodney gained seven positions to finish fifth behind Johnny Scott, Tanner Mullens, Dereck Ramirez, and Jake O’Neil.

Rodney jumped up to third in the Hunt for the Casey's Cup point standings. For more results from these events, please visit www.USMTS.com .

The upcoming – June 14-16 – has Rodney focused on a big payday as he invades Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for the second running of the Modified Masters. Action gets underway on Thursday night with a complete $2,500-to-win program. On Friday night double races will be contested, while Saturday night will see B-Mains and the 100-lap, $40,000-to-wn finale.
