I’d rather sit at a dirt track and watch them farm so I can hope and see a good race, rather then them rush through the program on a crap track. JMO. @cjp0354 The problem is it's been one lane all night and all the packing they've done hasn't done anything. The track is just too flat for the top to come in like they want it to. It took about 35 laps for it to widen out at the WoO show last October.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree to a point. Yes, get the track right but...start the program close to on time. A near two hour delay when a track had ALL day/week to get the race surface ready is bad practice. It's not like this race was just scheduled two days ago & nobody knew they were racing tonight.

We talk on this board all the time about attracting and keeping new fans. A night like this, starting late and a bunch of down time, doesn't help sell new fans on dirt racing. Especially if those first timers brought kids. They likely won't be back when they leave at 10pm and only saw 30 minutes of racing.

When I buy a ticket to a baseball game and that ticket says 7:00pm, I know with 100% certainty that the first pitch will be at 7:00. I'm not sitting in my seat at 8pm waiting for the game to start b/c six guys are mowing the grass on the field.

When I buy a ticket to a football game, I know the game is going to kick-off at noon. The game doesn't start late b/c the grounds crew is still lining the field.

I buy a ticket to a dirt race and the ticket/track website says racing starts at 6:30. I know that start time doesn't mean a hill of beans. I'm gonna get there at 6:30pm and still see some kind of trucks, tractors, or other form of old rusted-out pieces of $@!# still packing the track.

No new fans would ever show up if the ticket or track website said, "Races start at 6:30 "ish"...rarely on time, but before 8pm."

Without ever being there, and only seeing videos, it’s seems as if they need to make the track narrower and add some banking. It looks like the top is so far out there that the bottom always has advantage. I sure hope they get it figured out because I’ve heard the facility is top notch and would be nice to have another track capable of having a big money race.

Also I see how my post earlier about track prep could have turned bad, but the responses to it were informative and did not turn into bashing. Maybe it’s possible to have a good thread as long as 0 and 32 don’t get brought up.

Car count over 32, their's a B main and C main.

I believe they only has 28 entries.

Their was a lot of down time for track prep but I would rather they try to get it right instead of just going with what they had. At least they gave it a all out effort.
90 degrees and sunny didn't help the track surface any either.

Whatever the excuse was, whether it was a water ban, waiting for the sun to go down, wanting to get the track right, stretching the show to sell more food, etc., there is no excuse for a failure to COMMUNICATE. If it really was a delay due to the water ban or waiting for the temperature to go down, then that should have been shared with the paying customers. Hell, they head 3 announcers, I’d like to think one of them could have said something. Instead, they tried to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes by having some 10 year olds and some announcer that likes to scream “Make some noise!” throw some t-shirts 8 rows up into the bleachers. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and there were a lot of disappointed fans that watched a tractor show thinking that’s how things are normally done. Many around me said they would never come back. That frustration could have been reduced with a little communication and honesty. Whatever the BS is that gets in the way, like fair boards, county laws, the weather, or disappointing car counts, it is much better to communicate with your customers and be honest with them. It builds this important quality known as trust. Something I don’t have with this track or promoter anymore.

Shiny Side Up 18

A lot of these promoters don't appear to understand that many fans travel a few hours or more for these events (or maybe they just don't care). The people I sat with were very upset about all the screwing around, and they are hard core fans. All the pack trucks in the world weren't going to widen out the groove. It may have actually been a better feature if they hadn't rolled it in after every class. This looked more like a cash grab, since the concessions are the same ones from the NASCAR track ($16 for a sandwich and a watered down lemonade). I'm glad I didn't buy anything at Peoria or Kankakee, because last night made up for those. The track is too flat to widen out in a timely manner. Don't tell me social media is killing this sport. I'm so sick and tired of that horsecrap copout excuse. It's not starting at the advertised time and screwing around all night and keeping everybody there until 11:30 for three classes, two of which were under 15 cars, and running the headlining feature dead last that's killing this sport. I'm a diehard, so I stayed until the bitter end, but I can't imagine how put off a first timer or a casual fan must be after a night like that. These promoters do not care about time management, and biting the hands that feed them will come back to haunt them sooner than later as the core fanbase isn't getting any younger. What happened last night doesn't exactly make me want to go back in October.

What happened last night doesn't exactly make me want to go back in """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""I agree, and what about fans that showed up on time, they just suppose to sit and wait while roasting in the sun?

On the flip side, we we're hoping 66 would announce a later starting time so sitting in the heat could be avoided. When they didn't announce pushing the start time back, we decided to stay home in the ac and watch the Lucas race live on Lucas Oil TV. (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) good race it was!

Klms was more with the town not wanting the track. Now the screws in the old drywall put down at klms was all on Sherry witch ultimately cost O'Neal a championshipYes. The original owner made enemies with the town, and anyone else was pretty much doomed. And then the highway came through. But her time management, track prep, left a lot to be desired.

You only have one time to make a first impression. If you can't start on time, how are you ever going to impress new fans into coming back. Sorry but I'm with Shiny on this one. When I'm put in this position by a track starting late and screwing around, seldom to I ever return. Promoter need to start paying attention BEFORE it's too late.

She definitely missed Ben Shelton's (excellent) article from a couple of weeks ago about people not wanting to be at a racetrack all night long. That was one of the worst ran programs that I have attended in the last 5 years.

If Bob Sargeant was running that show, then we would have been done by AT LEAST 9 pm (with no more cars than there were there).

I am one of those diehards who travels a lot to special events, but I will not be making any more trips to that place.

Apparently, Will county has a daytime watering ban...whether it's dirt or grass.

Glad I opted not to make the 2.5 hour drive for this one.

That is a BS excuse. They were watering it at 4 pm when I went in and put down a blanket.

Also, the track was rolled in and ready to go at the advertised time (6pm hot laps), but instead of rolling the cars out, they brought the water truck back out and drenched it.

This lead to an hour and a half delay and a track that was narrow all night long.

Great facility there, I hope it works out but they have to shorten the track or do something to make the place more racier.

I agree with what most of you are saying. My biggest pet peeve in attending races is not starting anywhere near advertised start times. I have tracks/series that I wont even ask anybody to go with me to because of the way I know it will be run. When I see a man, wife, and kids leaving a track that they just spent good money to attend leaving the track after 10:30 and haven't seen one feature yet, do you think he will be coming back? People have choices for entertainment and don't have to tolerate that kind of promotion.

Perfect example. End of April there was a race with a scheduled start time of 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon. I had a family function that afternoon. I knew I would be late but figured I'd see most of races. Cut out of function early, drove an hour and a half to arrive at 5:30 to find they were still hotlapping. First race didn't start until after 6:30. Racing ended after 10:30 so I wasn't home until after midnight on what was now Monday morning. That 2 hours of time would have greatly improved my Monday morning. And of course, no mention ever by the track or sanctioning series on why they were 2 hours behind. Just business as usual.

There are people that put on races then there are promoters. I have never been a fan of the person that put the show on at Joliet. She does no wrong, just ask her. :)

She does not care if you don't come back because her daddy has money to bail her out and her Demo Derbies will pay for the next late model race she can say she put on as she posts another selfie on Facebook :)

Let's not get carried away here. The family that promotes the races at Rte. 66 does a WHOLE lot for dirt track racing. Are they perfect, absolutely not!

I am sure if you were to send an email, or better yet talk to the Promoter in person about your issue(s), they would be addressed. At least give it a shot :)

I'm somewhat surprised he showed up tonight TBH. He's pitted next to Thirlby.

Thirlby has Billy's old hauler, IIRC. I've seen them parked together a few other times.

They tried fix the track it was real bad. Made it better, BUT its still a long way from being a good track to race on needs LOTs of work. Turns are set up all wrong for Dirt. And you cant run a dirt track like a NASCAR track people are not the same. they hard working people not rich people looking for a place to blow there cash.
