I know this track is out of the way for a lot of you Illinois fans, but if you can make the trip, I would recommend it. The track prep here is top notch and the late models put on a good show on the high banked 1/4 mile. The forecast has continued to improve and today is beautiful. Tyler Erb put on a show last year to win in his first visit to the track.

I'll do my best to post updates. Hot laps at 6pm central.

Great racing at Haubstadt almost all the time. Scott Weber's Summer nationals win there a few years ago is still the best race I've ever seen in person.

Looking like rain is likely, unfortunately. I live 25 minutes southwest of the track and it is thundering at my house.

I’m hoping the rain keeps breaking up and they can get the show in. We’re about an hour south of the track and so far haven’t got anything more than a few sprinkles.

I'm glad they got it in as well. People in my area were pretty upset that we were going to run a feature with no heats, but the rain started falling with about 5 to go so the timing was pretty good. Tonight is the first time at TSS that I have heard others complaining to those around them, but to be fair, the tracks' time management was iffy. They didn't open the gates until an hour after scheduled time and hot laps were pushed an hour as well. If they would be been on time, who knows, but it was an issue. Also was the complete lack of communication from the track. No updates to social media about the delay, and then telling the crowd in modified heat #5 that the late model feature was next. A little communication goes a long way with fans. Track management was in tough spot tonight, they got the big race in, but there were some hiccups for sure.

I don't make it to Tri State Speedway as often as I would like, but this must have been an off night for them. The Helfrich family has done a great job promoting that speedway for many years. For them to open the gates an hour late is really unusual. And their time management is usually pretty good. Hate to see any show not start on time especially when weather becomes an issue. Thanks again for the updates.

I suppose that they ended up not running the modified feature either then? Did they have a good crowd for the SN?

Oh I agree with you, the Helfrich's run a tight ship here and this is by far the best run dirt track I've ever been to. With that said, while the LM feature was really good, the rest of the night was a miss. Single car qualifying with weather approaching after a late start? I was shocked.

The modified b mains and feature are postponed for a date to be announced. The crowd was surprisingly big. A really nice crowd for the weather forecast.

UMP and TSS deemed it appropriate to wait on taking in funds as the radar indicated a line of storms would push through and possibly rain out the event with no available make up date to schedule. Drivers were advised and understood the unique situation. However, the storms dissipated and teams began entering the grounds.

At the drivers meeting Sam announced three potential scenarios (I believe these are accurate) - A - run the normal program, B - skip qualifying and line heats up by draw and C - qualify and run the feature with start positions determined by qualifying. UMP was in charge of the event with input from TSS officials. Also with this being a dynamic situation, decisions were made on the fly and obviously they went with option C. Yes they probably could have done a better job explaining this to fans but essentially, the racers got an event in and fans got to see a pretty good event. Track conditions could have been better had the TSS crew not been up against rain and the threat thereof but I believe the teams were happier with the event getting in and the surface being smooth and easier on equipment.

I think they run the Modified Summer Nationals to each tracks rules (correct?), so maybe solely a track decision??

Probably because there was 37 mods and 23 supers. Not really any way to shorten the field to the 24 car starting field without running heats

I think a better idea would’ve been run 2 or 3 larger mod heats and 2 late model heats. Also group qualifying for the supers would’ve been nice. They still may not have gotten the mod feature in but I think that would’ve made for a better show.

I know it’s easy to look back on things and say doing this or that would’ve been the right thing to do and you just don’t have that luxury when in the moment. I really wish they didn’t push everything back an hour, but I understand why they did it.
